When the neighbors move, I sometimes get prizes like that chunky and lovely planter above. It’s perfect for holding some of my SoulCollage cards!
I had hoped it would work in this corner cupboard (a neighbor cast off itself which K bought for $400 and cleaned and waxed). But the planter’s too big — yet another lesson in how much scale matters. It’s also not white enough. Not sure when I became this fussy, but there you have it. (Three other white pieces on those shelves, by the way, were curb-finds and two plates purchased for a song at a yard sale).
A too-busy weekend. The good news? Having one event on the calendar inspired me to get my hair cut! (K’s office holiday party). I feel reborn. Somebody remind me in about two months, okay?

Your haircut looks great! I like the composition in the corner cupboard, the colors work so well together…and you are right about the scale mattering. We had two built-in corner cupboards in the corners of my childhood dining room, so I have a soft spot for them. I have a copper tray that belonged to my neighbor. It sits on my coffee table, where I see it daily. It was very, very tarnished, which was fine by me. Then last week (years after I got it), I decided I was going to clean it up…bought some “Kleen King” and WOW! It shines like new! Not sure if I will keep it this way or let it tarnish again. When she passed away, the children did what we do at those times. Then they left a very small pile of “stuff” on the porch and told my next-door-neighbor and I we could take what we wanted. I took the tray and a very 1970’s looking pottery dish w/ two handles. It looked handmade, but not at the same time. In one of my selling binges, I sold it. The gal that bought it told me that every year she and her sister give each other a piece of pottery for their birthdays. This one would be her sister’s birthday gift that year. That was such a beautiful story, I was happy the dish had found a new home with them!
I go back and forth about shined metals. I polished up our brass door knocker recently. It was quite an effort which is why I probably won’t do it again for a batch of years.
the little planter that doesn’t fit in the cupboard is such a beauty maybe it just needs a plant & gosh haven’t had a haircut for at least ten years, every few years the more well kept girlfriends say I need to hack off a foot of split ends which I do eventually and they wish I would dye my hair sd they hate the silver it makes them feel old… I say why bother? I am and proud of it!

It will be pretty with a plant. I’m with you in the hair dyeing business. What a lot of time and money women spend! I went to a play yesterday with five others: two fake red heads, one full grey, two pure whites, and my almost full grey.
It amazes me almost every day what people put out to be collected for the rubbish dump! Have they never heard of recycling? Here you phone and pay for stuff to be picked up when they could easily take it to a charity shop. Some will even pick up furniture for you to be donated to needy people or resold. I always feel like knocking on their doors and setting them straight, but maybe that wouldn’t go down very well! AAAGGHHH!!!!!
I know. I don’t understand esp since there’s a donation place a quarter mile down the road. The recent find comes from an antique collector who has sold his house. He was in the business. I think he likes giving neighbors the opportunity to pick up some fun vintage items for nothing.

You just took ten years off with that really good haircut. I feel new again each time I do it too, I made a note on my paper calendar in March…”remind Dee to get a haircut” Ha! Meanwhile, since most of what I have has come from the discards of many neighbors coming and going, I applaud your selectivity and your sense of order.

What a great cut … wish I could find someone to do a similarly good job on my similarly straight hair. Instead, I’ve given up and let it go long (which saves a bundle, not to mention avoiding the whole dye racket).
And corner cabinets … I’ve always had a soft spot for them and envy those who have room(s) that can hold them well. Love that yours features rescued relics.
I let mine go long for really long periods of time. Money time etc. But I’m lucky that there are places nearby where I can get a nice cut if the mood strikes.
