Shovel and sweat

Just worked up a sweat putting a few plants in the ground (hyssop) and transplanting a few others (the rudbeckia that is asserting itself in the front bed). I’m done in! Not even as hot as it’s been.

Fortunately, I have reserves left to pick up a pen AND GO. And, to read.

PS. The full fat compensatory strategy to help eliminate sugar is, not over, but going to be subject to scrutiny now. Just joined Weight Watchers online (again). This morning while merrily munching away found out that half a cup of cashews is almost half my day’s allotment of points. See? Better to know these things.

Interesting: “full fat strategy” to help eliminate sugar. We should talk? because, though its taken me 4+ years of diet-work, I now feel i have my blood sugar under control through diet, which has also resulted in weight loss that I can maintain. I eat a lot of dairy, and though it has its grams of sugar it doesn’t seem to affect me adversely in terms of gaining lbs., nor do nuts. I don’t worry about “points”, I am unprogrammable. I eat barrels of raw walnuts, which apparently are toxic in large quantities, so this aspect of my “fat solution” may eventually kill me. Thank goodness for Trader Joe’s bags of raw nuts $. I also eat chicken, fish, lamb, and turkey (but not in as big quantities as I used to). Anyway.. b-o-r-i-n-g!? However, its really exciting when you get your metabolism figured out and you can look your doctor in the eye and say, “I will never have to take insulin”. My doc did say (that one time I really screwed up by eating GF bread – what was I thinking?), “The diet you’re on, my DEAR, is for life. I repeat, for LIFE. Forever, for life, no cheating. Well, maybe you can have a little oatmeal once a week”. I eat absolutely no bread and crap-tons of vegetables. God I loved bread, almost as much as I loved smoking cigarettes. I love your gardens. Now on to twitter… take care don’t give up nuts and keep writing 🙂 :-).

I had no idea you were battling insulin issues! I went off one of my meds in August of last year and almost immediately gained 15 pounds. It’s awful. Also, I have lots of joint pain, which is dramatically improved when I give up sugar so there’s that. I’ve been off gluten almost entirely for years and had given up dairy too but then found out I had osteoporosis and wondered if that had contributed, so added back cheese. I adore butter and plan to eat it again. Anyway for now: it’s three weeks of eliminating seven foods (sugar, dairy, gluten, eggs, peanuts, corn and soy) with support from Weight watchers app, then continue with WW app and keep off sugar and gluten — maybe forever for me too? This is the fourth time I’m losing these 17 pounds and I feel the way I did when I quit smoking for the final time — that I don’t. Want. To. Do. This. Again. So maybe I’ll make different decisions when I get to goal weight. Four years is sobering! Congrats on that.

damn body betrayals. well, you’re doing a reset, you’ll be back on track in no time. I do cheat from time to time (say, a bite of someone else’s dessert or a 1/2 a piece of garlic bread when out for dinner) but its never worth it (ok, garlic bread IS) and then I have to recover from “the experience” by drinking tons of water and resisting anything bad again for 6 months.

Wow, you have a very delicate system. What incredible discipline you’re exerting. I’m so very impressed.

10 lbs .. if I could just loose 10 lbs says the girl that just finished a slice of apple pie with her afternoon cup of coffee. The same 10 lbs I lost 10 years ago and kept off until I retired and 😬🤪 discovered I like baking. And as much as I can stay away from bread and potatoes and such .. banana bread and a pie now and again have me for now. But I know the day is coming .. when I’ll have to kiss these extra 10 lbs .. I say extra because what I really should and would like to loose is 20 lbs .. a girl can dream. Good luck Dee .. you got this!

I love sweets and love to bake. After the boys left though there was less reason and then I went off gluten and there was even less reason — so what did I do? I switched to ice cream. As in full fat ice cream. Anyway, I could maintain that way and did for many years until this mess change. Now I have to get back. Thanks for the good wishes! As for you— is ten pounds enough to deny yourself those goodies?

Beauty like that is worth sweating for and OH the pea hen and baby (?) I have switched to organic liquid stevia and it’s fine for coffee and to add in to things requiring a sweet touch. Metabolizes entirely differently than sugar. Sometimes I put raw honey on toast. But, other than that – no sugar. It has, however not made me younger (though it never promised to do so, I’m still disappointed :–)

I’ve been using stevia in coffee for many years. Some sprinklings on other things. But, I’d developed a really bad ice cream and chocolate habit. After lunch and dinner.

Chocolate, every day, must happen. I literally measure out my daily allotment in Guittard chips. When they are gone, that’s it (except … well, there are sometimes exceptions).

I have another friend who can do this. Right now I’m turning the ship around (that’s how I view a food habit change with metabolic results). I’ll experiment in some months to see if I can, too. Experience says not. I like to eat Toblerone bars in a single
          Go. 😟
