Wonderful setting for your Easter brunch Dee. Your photos and words have been quite the gift …to see the photo of your Easter Pie brought back so many memories for me. We had very dear Italian friends, I always called them the Josies because the woman was named Josephine, a very large, robust woman with a hearty laugh and her husband, pencil thin mustache, tiny man, who always came to our home after Easter Sunday mass, bringing with them the most delicious savory Easter Pie, filled with eggs, ham, salami, ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, etc. You could eat it warm, you could eat it cold. To go with their gift of Easter Pie, my Mom always had a huge platter of asparagus, with a smattering of minced hard boiled eggs and red pimiento strips surrounding the plate. Dad’s wine was also always on the table, dessert was usually strawberries unless my Aunt had baked a lemon meringue pie. Food memories, how they bubble up to the surface complete with aroma, taste and love…
What food recollections you bring to the table! I can especially see the pimento and asparagus, brightly contrasted on the plate. We had Easter bread (blessed in a service the afternoon before), egg and herb wedges, hard boiled eggs, and lightly dressed greens which included wild leaves from the grove’s grounds (my favorite). For dessert: marzipan shaped like doves and an almond cake, also shaped like doves. Yummmm. For the others, there was organic wine made by our host’s grandfather. Spectacular!
What a magnificent place for a special friend meal. A cold, rainy, grey sky weekend in Missoula was forgotten as I climbed into your photos.

Glad you enjoyed! It warmed up considerably as we ate. The day started chill and overcast but ended warm and toasty. Hot, even. The views were like paintings. Our host packed up leftovers for us, which I am still enjoying — now with a little iced coffee. Stay warm, Kristin! Hope it was a good weekend for putting pen to page!
