Windy and cold today and so, so many sirens in Newton. Siren after siren. I helped a friend with a small garden this morning and came home, bathed, and slept.
I had just read a N.Y. Times opinion piece examining the awful conditions of the meat processing plants and meat production’s extraordinary cost to the environment.
If the article is behind a firewall, here at least is an excerpt:
We cannot protect our environment while continuing to eat meat regularly. This is not a refutable perspective, but a banal truism. Whether they become Whoppers or boutique grass-fed steaks, cows produce an enormous amount of greenhouse gas. If cows were a country, they would be the third-largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world.
I agree. Piece is perfect as it stands now. I have always liked script on fabric .
Meat. Every so often I enjoy a good pot roast or pulled pork but the rest of the time I just don’t care for eating animals even eggs. Not political. Not environmental. Just have never been a fan. But bread??? Love it. And brownies.
Well I like meat eggs brownies AND bread. I didn’t eat red meat for five years as a young person. Drove my mother nuts. I’d just read “Diet for a Small Planet.”
This one seems such a different look for you. I also like text on cloth.
Yeah. It’s not patchwork. And it’s not colorful.
Yeah, but I was looking forward to seeing what you would do with color … photo collage maybe??
and the sirens … ambulances?
In Massachusetts we are still seeing hundreds of new cases a day. Today? 1200.
I did fiddle digitally. Always fun!
I like it that way, too. Black and white are refreshing. Looking around (in my own work too) we seem to be overcompensating for so much with COLOR, like a whole banquet of nothing but rich desserts.
It can be good to work against preference. Discover things.
love this B&W piece !
like it as is, only just realized it’s black and white, thought it was a very dark blue
re the meat, on a personal level I find this very tough as I eat a lot of dairy products even if I don’t eat a lot of meat, except for game, which is by definition wild….as always with these huge issues I find it quite complicated and there don’t seem to be any easy answers
I love the black and white, with its hearts of sepia. It has a look of the past.
Thank you Dana. I guess sepia tones and black and white will do that.
If you add to it or not, this is magic.
