Wednesday I will talk for the first time with a professional author consultant about my manuscript. The first 50 pages. And, I have 22 pages left to edit. Editing has mostly been a process of cutting.
There’s been very little visual work going on — for long enough that it feels as though something is missing. The garden looks gorgeous, though.
Yesterday I played with cloth that was next to the couch on the floor. Finished Season 3 of Longmire.
A friend with a huge aloe plant gave me a few pieces yesterday. The mother plant looked like something from a science fiction movie — as if it might lunge and scuttle away.

Your fabric collection and the way you use it (abuse it) fascinates me. I usually WANT every fabric that you show on the blog- thinking-“if I had that….” that my work would be more fascinating. to me. Bon Chance on the consultation.
It’s so funny. Your recent post with house motif cloth in purpled? I have two of those very fabrics in my bins! I did try to comment that day, BTW, and the day after, and the day after that. Michelle’s blog doesn’t take my comments either.

The first year in this house I pulled out an entire bed of monkshood, thinking it a weed! But given its poisonous nature and given that in short order two boys would join our two cats, it’s probably just as well.

Ah, to have gotten so far to need a consultant…great! May it be productive and enlightening. We had a monster aloe at our last place. It began as a scrawny thing that the neighbor didn’t want. I love how the green slips in on this cloth, joining in.
It’s a landmark, being at this point. But where in the process of finishing? I have no idea.

I have been working hard. And believe it or not, I’m much more interested to hear what she thinks isn’t working than what she found moving (“bowled over” is how she put it).
Speaking with a professional author, having a consultation, knowing that your words will be read and taken in…When the pages of your novel are reviewed and discussed, I can only think that this professional author will smile in recognition of an author who has much to say, much to give, much to connect, and who has dedicated herself to the hard questions.
