A spell of relief

When I got the text, I cranked Spotify as loud as it would go, opened all the back windows, and went out on the deck and danced (you and me, both, Marti! And Nancy!) Kool and the Gang: CELEBRATE Good Times, C’mon.

There came neighbor J, emerging out her back door to ask if it had finally happened. YES! Which state? I don’t even know yet! She disappeared inside to tell her husband, who was in the shower.

Across the fence lines, two parents at the playground looked at their phones, yelped, and gave each other high fives. Then waved at me, understanding the backyard ruckus.

A bunch of us spilled out into the street and gathered on a front lawn two doors down. Champagne. More dancing and hooting. Queen: We are the champions!

“Oh my god!” seemed the most frequent comment. “Oh my god!”

K’s sister and her husband were due any minute, so we couldn’t cruise into Boston and see the crowds celebrating.

But that’s okay. Given the glorious weather (high 70’s and clear blue skies), we had decided to celebrate Thanksgiving on Saturday. But let me tell you, what started out as a pandemic-compensatory event turned into a moment of giving genuine thanks.

Now I am baking Irish soda bread (there’s a new season of The Great British Baking Show!). I hope it’s not stodgy.

Also rearranging books subsequent to a garbage picked perfectly intact ikea three drawer cabinet with bookcase on top. We put it in C’s room. It’s allowing me to unstuff bookcases in both boys’ rooms, which is nice.

And now I’ll bid you adieu. WordPress has reached that inevitable point in the process where it’s tired of me. Slowed down. Resistant. So forgive typos, I’m gonna just post and run!

Yummm. My raisins all went to the edge and burned. Just like someone on an episode we saw last night but I can’t remember why.

it’s a ghost town here but I’m enjoying dropping down a few beats into something more formally normal. Enjoy seeing both you and K’s faces with less tension. Noticed for myself this morning I put on my favorite around the the house shirt just because I like it not as a conscious attempt to boost my serotonin level. Just went into the garden happy instead of feeling like i had to decontaminate first. human dignity stuff …

Yeah all that emotional/energetic change. I’ve gone from relieved to exhausted. Just had a little body work done, which is helping.

Well for all of the music that I played, I didn’t play Kool and the Gang and should have because that is great music for dancing: My playlist started off with my dearly loved Celia Cruz, Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan and then Santana’s, Dance Sister Dance, David Bowie and Mick Jagger’s version of Dancing in the Street cause I wanted to swoop like David did in his coat, leaping off the stairs. the Spinners, Mighty Love, the O’Jays, Love Train and in honor of Kamala, the Isley Bros, Whose That Lady…no Irish soda bread but I did dance to my fab Chieftains and Van Morrison’s, Boffyflow and Spike, an Irish jig melded with Middle Eastern rhythms and by then, this old body was winding down so I ended it with a welcome Hawaiian chant, Onaona i Ka Hala which tells the story of “the arrival of a loved one whom has not been seen for a period of time” and that simply felt so fitting to me… like a brand new day.

How wonderful! We’ve been keeping our delight on the down low because chances are 50-50 that someone is going to say or do something ugly.

a great black cloud was lifted on the weekend with the win by Biden/Harris, it will be so good when the orange thug is placed on the shelf in the annals of history as the worst president ever to be elected in the USA

Well we had one good day. Reading credible sourcing that we need to call what’s currently happening a coup until proven otherwise: the firing of the defense secretary; the majority leader of the senate refusing to accept the results.

Wow! So happy for you all. My dear friend in Eureka CA is beside herself with joy too. Roll on January, it’s going to be a great event. What a gentle person Joe Biden is. And Kamala….oh my!

Don went to the doctor yesterday and was regaled with video of our doc and his family driving around Austin honking their car horn in celebration of Biden’s victory …

I’m late to the celebration here but you KNOW it was happening in crab meadow. The handful of us lit up in digital celebrations. Thank god. The war isn’t won but we’re on our way.
WFUV out of Fordham has a great Friday night show called The Whole Wide World. The DJ played tribute songs mentioning all the states. It was beautiful even if the red ones had to be included as well. You can listen to it in their online archives.

Now back to making art a little more optimistic.

Enjoy your bread! There is a reason the Irish love a thick schmear of butter and jelly with theirs.

There’s a reason too why old Irish blessings include gratitude for having teeth strong enough to eat bread!
