I made biscuits and I made soup.
I underlined words in a book — another biography about Audubon, this one by William Sounder.
Later I will close up this pillow cover. It will go down in The Quiet Nook in the basement studio.
And also later, I will watch more heartbreaking news about Ukraine.
I want to make biscuits now. I need energy to handle any more awful news.

A Ukrainian marine gave his life to set bombs to take out a bridge the Russians were going to cross with tanks.
Wow. And did you read about the Ukrainians on that small island who gave their lives to fight the Russians? I think there were 13 of them.
“A book well read is marked up: underlined, full of notes scrawled in the margins, a little spaghetti sauce…” that was my 11th grade Russian Lit teacher’s way of consoling us as we tried to complete War and Peace in two weeks. I forget how long we had, but it seemed undo-able, then I guess knowing it was ok to really be absorbed and somewhat destructive? miraculously I got it read.
There was no mention of anyone in the US protesting Putin last night – or did I miss it? I may have been reading twitter and missed it 🙂
Anyway, I love seeing your marked up page! I made muffins this AM but those biscuits look really great… GF? perfect with soup for this blustery March day. And, what a luscious looking pillow!
I’ve seen no reporting of Americans protesting either.
Never have read War and Peace. Or Moby Dick. I consider that kind of a personal failing. Biscuits used White Lily flour, the secret ingredient to one Charleston bakery’s biscuits. Not gluten free. The five pound bag was a Christmas gift!

The look amazing! We’re drooling over here. Moby Dick is one of J’s all time favorite books, I’ve never been able to get through it.
As far as the awful state of the world…tonight I came home to this story on the local news. Heartbreaking beyond any words I could form. The humanity of the people, the total lack of humanity from the leaders (I use that word out of need, for surely they are not leaders) is just beyond belief.

Thanks for that news clip. So many lives being charred by this. On a side note, I couldn’t help thinking how attractive so many Ukrainians are!
we sat and watched another war begin on TV … just as we did in the early 90s, watching the war begin on Headline News … in truth I cannot remember which one … still I cannot comprehend it all even as I cannot turn my eyes away
and then there is the news of the CDC saying masks can come off … just as they said masks weren’t needed at the beginning of the pandemic … am I the only one who sees that the lulls in the virus that lead to unmasking inevitably lead to a new surge? … are there really that many lemmings among us?
so I make cloth and food … food heavy on butter and cream and flour and sugar … such luxuries of comfort … and yes, your biscuits look so amazing … I could fairly taste them through the ether
It is all so dismaying. The SCOTUS nomination a lovely exception. I just learned she has more judicial experience than the last four appointments COMBINED.
I just made buttermilk blueberry pancakes, served with a dollop of ricotta. “Where are we? In a B and B?” I might have crowed.
