Paperwhites: Miracles, plain and simple.
Waiter at special dinner out last week. I applauded his “George Kent” style. Blank look. Laugh from a friend, saying, “Not everyone is as riveted as you are!”
Today I shaved pages, many pages, out of three chapters. I’m using the ironing board as my writing desk at the moment. Provisional and yet? Fitting, somehow.
I hope it’s a wonderful homecoming for you and your boys! And thanks for the reminder about paperwhites.

I’m not a movie watcher, nor much of a novel reader (the reality of the news cycle is scary enough) … but more than once I have wondered if the authors of dystopia in both genres had a prescience that is indeed now coming to pass … much as I try to push the thought down, it comes to me again and again that this IS us
I wonder about writers pulling from the ether, too. The fact that the novel “children of men” is based on was written by PD James makes a compelling case for that, since she normally wrote murder mysterious.
The beauty of your street in autumn and the prepared beds for your absent sons brings a sense of home so poignantly into focus. Warm thoughts to you and your family as you gather to celebrate the coming holiday together. May your home hold you close.

I can attest to how cozy one of those rooms is. My own mattress now feels like a bag of bricks.
Children of Men was so powerful, I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it again. Some films are just like that – a shovel to the head. As for Holiday movie fare, “Die Hard”, “the Polar Express” and nearly any old b&w classic like “Casablanca” or “Now Voyager”.
I’ve seen other mentions of Die Hard. Will have to add it to the list.
Yay! For time with both boys! Seeing Finney-boy on the bed, I wonder if that is allowed or not, I’m guessing it is okay. He has grown, learned and calmed down so much – yes? When I saw you saying “ironing board’ my mind saw you ironing out your pages, literally, – getting them just right! Enjoy your family time.
PS Your trash cans today bring into view the fact that each trash day, when cans are out along the streets of my neighborhood, I think about how we don’t do that anymore. Odd.

No, the building has big commercial type dumpsters…so we don’t take cans to the street anymore 🙂
