The metallic clang
of plows on empty dark roads.
A curtain pulled back.
It’s snowing and will likely turn to rain. A good day to make soup and read about Pompeii and the Uffizzi.
If I felt like making soup, that is, which I don’t.
Didn’t sleep until after three last night. I know I’ll feel better after a walk. I always do.

I’ll end with two more screen shots and a close up from 2023: August first (Hawaii), then Zooey Zephyr in April (Montana).
Isn’t it so great to have something to look forward to?! Someone, somewhere said: the three things about events like this that contribute to our happiness is something to look forward to, something to enjoy in the moment and something to reflect on later, with good memories. Trips are like this for me. Enjoy.
26 degrees here and tomorrow night, it may get down to 8! I left a long comment on Jude’s blog so I am bringing part of it here:
Snow here as well in New Mexico, smattering here in the central part of the state where I live but lots in the higher elevations. Went early to the grocery to make sure we have enough eggs and milk and almost dropped he bag when I came out of the store because overhead, two hot air balloons! What! Are they nuts! It is beyond freezing…
Lots of food cooked here for this week; I like to be ready when we need to hunker down:: salmon chowder, (made so delicious by fresh thyme); also have made a huge pot of vegetarian chili and a Shepherds Pie made with leftover leg of lamb from Christmas. Later in the week, a lasagna will be made and that’s it for cooking for two weeks. Lots of books, a warm throw on the couch, candles and food in the frig- what a gift…
Used Rick Steves for our trip to Ireland. All of the places he recommended for us to stay were terrific and all were B and B’s. I wanted something more intimate than a hotel.Every place had an electric kettle, cookies, crackers and sometimes even homemade scones in our room. Mentioning his name brought a lot of good conversations at breakfast. . We stayed in Dublin, Kilkenny, Kinsale and Galway. Restaurants, restaurants were good as well although we did go off the beaten path and I loved wandering into grocery stores, picking up items for picnics and snacks.. We did not rent a car but were able to cobble bus and train schedules. Riding the bus into different towns gave us a wonderful perspective of place and was so much more rewarding because we were able to chat with the many locals who boarded the bus.t
What yummy concoctions you’ve got going or ready! I made a tasty rigatoni with cauliflower, golden cherry tomatoes, and artichoke hearts last night. Good warmed up for now.
Making hotel reservations now. After many years of doing Airbnb on our trip south we stayed in Hiltons etc. We’ll see what I find. We want to be able to walk pretty much everywhere.
Zooey is a magnificent woman, elected from Missoula Montana to serve in the state’s Legislature. She is a strong, advocate for personal rights and freedoms.
Thanks for the correction. Her mike was cut around the same time the GOP legislators were silencing the two Justin’s in Tennessee which is why I thought Tennessee. Fixing now.
The last couple of pictures go straight to my heart. I hope your walk was good; I always feel recharged after being outside.
It was slushy and slidey, so we walked less than usual but still felt great!
Oh the sound of the plows … and how we would wait for the phone call that confirmed the schools would be closed … no student was ever happier than the teachers!
Yes. Those epic snow days! City plows are done for now. Neighbors use their snow blowers in a steady roar.
Was the poor little puddie still alive?
The dog? Oh yes, we went on to walk for a couple of miles.
