Home to rain

After ten days of west coast sun, I am sitting in the near dark, rain spattering now, but pounding down earlier.

A good day to read and write and put travel stuff away. Just for contrast, here’s a little California sun.

We saw K’s family in Oregon and managed also to see a lot of the state. The weekend was reserved for C and his girlfriend in LA. Highlights later.

More pix on Instagram.

Did I mention how nice it is to be home?

I do. I’ve been a few times. First time spending time in Koreatown. A little gritty but good food, diverse, nonstop sunshine.

LA must be an acquired taste, when I visited the USA in 2014 I stopped off in LA to recover from the 14 hour flight from Sydney and spent the day at Venice Beach, was very happy I wasn’t panhandled or pickpocketed, my brother said this was because I look so much like a street person these days no one would have bothered!

Very funny of your brother. We went to Venice Beach and it is quite a scene. Not my cup of tea at all, but an experience. This trip was kind of all about fairly shitty parts of the city, unlike other visits. I still really enjoyed it though.

Wow, the slice of blue in that last photo is spectacular!

And sometimes I miss east coast-style fall leaves …

Ah, yes, I know that sun-filled sky! As far as Venice, I used to roller skate the boardwalk there back in the mid-late 1970’s! It’s not so innocent anymore. I remember a visit to my son once in SF, where he took us to eat in the not so great neighborhood! Boys!
