We went to the North Shore with the hopes of walking on a beach and eating clams.
I counted signage. Didn’t know what to expect but I’m happy to report that Biden, BLM, and Choose Love signs outnumbered the trump signs and American flags combined.
Two obvious but sickening notes: 1) how thoroughly the GOP has coopted patriotism such that it was a safe guess that homes flying flags were trump supporters; and 2) how one party is about love and the other party isn’t. Stark.
A breezy day with beautiful clouds.
Couldn’t find a public beach, but we did eat clams. The Clam Box was super crowded with jostling in the parking lot and a loooong wait for food but people were keeping distance and all wore masks. Delicious clams — and a slightly better deal than the famous Woodman’s in Essex.
Heading back we came across The Old Burying Ground, 1634 and wandered in.The drive home was awful. But at least I had taken a leak. I won’t tell you where.
It was not a great outing and not a bad one. I have to say the best part was walking into the house upon return and being thoroughly glad to be home — as if we’d been gone for days and not a matter of hours.

I love old cemeteries and tombstones, thank you for the photos. We went to see a relative for a couple days (in a town where love does not outweigh patriotism/t-rump-ism), also not the beach, also “not a great outing and not a bad one”, and also great to come home.
Same timetable it seems.
Oh man I miss visiting Brian in Boston and getting those Ipswich clams. My fav.
Here on LI the signs depress and annoy. I read recently that LI is sister to Alabama. They’re not kidding. Thank god the whole of NYS absorbs these pockets of cancer. I wish it could for the whole of the USA.
Yeah the clams are great. Worth the drive the wait and that greasy afterfeel. When the pandemic is over you’ll have to visit and we’ll get some.
I do love clams … little necks on the half-shell or popped open on the grill, steamed long necks dunked in melted butter, chowdered quahogs, and any of them pasta-ed (that’s gotta be a word) … you name it, I love it
what is fascinating to me is how the taste is so specific to the locale … Chesapeake Bay clams can’t hold a candle to their Peconic Bay kin … and vice versa when it comes to blue crabs
Pasta-Ed definitely should be a word!
Liz, you remind me of the book The Egg and I!
Seeing the wind sail and hearing that wind was worth the trip.
Just visited your tour of New York. Loved the woman praying to the Virgin. And the pink wall.
love the blue house
There were dozens of houses built in the 1600 and 1700’s which isn’t so rare for Holland but is quite rare for New England.
Fried clams are my favorite. Bellies or strips. Butter and lemon, keep the bun. It’s been years.
I screeched when the video clip ended before she made, or didn’t make, the turn!! Thrilling.
I couldn’t believe how FASt the wind surfers were flying. It’s was amazing.
yesterday wordpress wouldn’t let me whine about how much I want – nay need – to go out to Race Point. J says to me “two words – adult diapers”. Don’t envy you the noise level you contend with one bit but do very much envy that straight zip up to the north shore.
Wind and history and getting out for a bit…that works. I looked for signs as I drove to get a flu shot today. Not too many, period
