The gloaming

The light on the way home from the airport tonight was indescribably beautiful.

The pack has shrunk. We’re back to three.

Fell asleep last night to the muffled booms of Boston’s fireworks. Woke to zero degrees and a windchill factor of -13.

It was a short walk today. With three scarves, long johns, hat and hood and my below-the-knee down parka, only my ankles got cold. K found his legs catching a chill. Finn managed just fine, though it seems a walk in these temps exhausts him.

Tomorrow is a new chapter. It can’t help but be. Ready or not, here we go!

I was gonna ask about your heat. What a deprivation! And yes! I love the word “gloaming”. I think I first ran across it in a John Banville novel. Needed a dictionary to get through most chapters (which I like).

Happy 2018 Dee! I just can’t believe these temps! Is this colder than normal or have I forgotten from last year? Good for you for walking despite the cold.

It’s colder tho not unheard of. I just learned how the warming of the northern polar cap relaxes circling winds that usually keep the cold contained, letting the cold descend.

Love your beautiful blurs & the phrase, “in the gloaming” & the time of day, too. There’s a sweet old old song about it that I had in a post a couple of years ago… Wishing you warmth, most of my sister’s emails are coming from under the blankets these days.

Brrr! Keep safe and as warm as possible. The gloaming is beautiful at the end of a clear, cold day.

We are keeping warm. Shorter walks, for sure. Lots of soup. And mega appreciation for my three heating pads!

Thanks Els. I was born at dusk in February. I’ve often wondered if that’s why I love winter evening light so much. Happy healthy 2018 to you, too!
