Ha! I, too, have been known to keep prospective gifts for myself, although I always have a stern internal scolding for doing so. I’d keep the mouse too. Also the quilts, which, like so much of your work, are both active and coherent. Finn has such a lovable face.

I would love to see a progress post of how you go about designing these little house quilts.
I will collate a bunch of shots of a piece soon. My method is a little happenstance. “Improv” is probably too elevated a term. But there are some constancies: prime among them a willingness to combine pieced cloth with appliqué.
Love Finn! Most excellent picture of that handsome furbaby. And the houses—oh yes, I do love the houses, and would want to keep them all if they were already in my possession—as well as the tree AND the mouse. 😀
It just came to me that it is Finney’s eyes that get me, as they are so much like my Sonny’s (childhood dog).
