At three I said, “Let’s go to the beach!”
An hour later we joined a few strangers at Cape Hedge Beach in Rockport just as a fine mist rolled in.
I pocketed a few striped rocks for my collection, but heart-shaped rocks are rare around here so I settled on heart-adjacent.
Dinner at the famous Woodman’s in Essex was its usual combination of delicious and mind-numbingly pricey. Do you know what fries clams cost these days? Though tables outside afforded good social distance, I insisted we eat in the car. Too much coming and going. Also — at least three dogs. And anyway, the view from the front seat satisfied!
We had a pounding rain last night. It looks as though my tender basil, amaranth, and sunflower seedlings survived.
After a three day break, the patio crew is back. Movement. Progress. So much waiting and delay lately! Will I / won’t I hear from the editor this week?
How nice to go to the shore. That is how our favorite Emma Wood looks, all rocks! And a meal out (sort of), we still haven’t done that. I hope your phone rings!
It was our first “meal out.” We’ve done take out once and pizza a few times, so this was a super treat.
Yay patio!! It already looks great. Also, yay beach. Sometimes its the best place to be.
Hammering stone down as I type. K and I hardly recognize this experience — having someone else do all this back breaking work. Beyond grateful.
that sky!
I know, right?
Ahhhhh would LOVE to go to a stony beach : here the beaches are only sand !!!
I love the Atlantic coast in the northeast. Have you ever been here? Just tried and failed to leave a comment on your blog so let me say, I love your current project — the emerging rose!
Rockport heals the soul in all ways. Negative ions. Rocks. Particularly for you and yours. I have so many fond memories of my 2 weeks there when we were kids. sunny days climbing the barnacled rocks and flopping into the frigid sea until our lips were blue and then shivering on the towels in the sand until our lips were red and then doing it again and again. something about lighting farts – that must’ve been a rainy day.
Great recollections! Really captured the flavor of our weeks there!
It is interesting to see beaches with so many rocks after spending time in the Florida panhandle beaches where rocks are so hard to find. Great post.
Thanks Geri. Whenever I go to sandy beaches, I find myself missing the craggy Atlantic coast.
