My other productivity-brag : I have finally started reading about Medicare and let me just say how stupidly complicated it all is. How does someone with little education and no advocacy figure this shit out?
Dee~ I am so with you on the Medicare thing!!! When talking to my friend, she always says “…and you’re an intelligent person” – to which I add “And English is my first language!”

We went to a Medicare info session at our local public library five years ago … figured the guy doing it had to be somewhat legit or he wouldn’t have been invited … we ended up getting Plan G and Plan D which have worked out okay, but it is mind boggling
That’s what we did too, @Liz. Not the library, but my husband went through the process for his older brother and i followed that lead. Maybe just NJ but I also had a local woman call me (from Medicare, some sort of advocate or broker?) but explained how to get the lowest monthly payment. I lost my notes and her #, so probably didn’t get the cheapest…? Anyway, it’s been ok so far. They surely don’t pay for anything extra, like a lipid screening ordered by doc. I went through the complaint process but got nowhere with that. We need socialized medicine. Like my dad advocated for 40 years ago…

Lovely icy image there… like navigating Medicare, which is prickly beyond belief. I can figure things out but f**king Medicare made me cry with frustration. Watched youtubes from a guy, Medicare School I think, learned that sticking with original Medicare & getting a supplement plan (Plan G) will always work, anywhere anytime. The so-called Advantage plans will Not. They are HMOs, they can deny coverage for the very dr or treatment you might need & are notorious for fraud. Start & stay with original Medicare. Will cost more monthly vs the so-called Advantage plans but it gives you the power to Choose.
You are confirming what I keep hearing. Thank you! You don’t necessarily get such a clear delineation of pros and cons in the materials they send.
