Here’s a modern day conundrum: we don’t really have winter here in New England anymore and yet — the feel and sight of spring is palpable. Mostly it’s the light.
But also, look at those brave snowdrops! It was 24 degrees when I walked Finn this morning and yet there they are.

Almost done with baby quilt commission. I constructed it so that the longest seams run the width. That’s to avoid how even a small inaccuracy (and I’m taking 1/8”) can get really exaggerated on a long seam.
The brief did not include making the blanket an I Spy quilt but I couldn’t resist including a few critters and a motorcycle.

Aw, it is gorgeous!
Just wait for the crocus and gentian. They cover the side yard!
I did not know of these flowers, until I saw one on Yvette’s blog 🙂
So pretty…and yes, spring feelings here.
The quilt is wonderful, but I couldn’t find the motorcycle!
It’s in a black rectangle near the center.
We have a long wait for our spring bulbs to bloom .. although this has been one of our warmest winters on record so it probably won’t be as long as I’m thinking. Your quilt turned out great .. love the red pops here and there.
This bulbs are on a south facing brick wall so they are in a little microclimate.
My snowbells, pussy willows, and crocus are up. And the Robins are back too. It seems odd. Granted the weather is warmer. Or better so say cold one day warm’ish the next but the light is different too. I have onions and garlic sprouting on the kitchen shelf. (I pardoned a few and threw them in some dirt just because of their sheer determination to sprout like mad). And my potted fig, inside for the winter and to all appearances dead, all of a sudden sprung to life and is 3feet taller, covered with leaves. Such a weird winter.
Yes. Weird. Also you guys are in a warmer growing zone than Boston. It’s too bad about your tree BTW (the fallen one).
I’m heartbroken. She will be missed.
24 degrees and you don’t call that “winter”? It’s all relative, yah?
😅
( However; I recall piles and piles of dirty snow lining the streets, this time of year, when I was a little girl (a long time ago, haha!) in New England…)
Well it HAS been cold but storm warning after storm warning have been bust. Long gone are the big banks of plowed snow along the streets. Not that they won’t happen again. Just that snowfall is no longer the norm.
