Pasta making in Florence

It rained today. Hard at times. But we never really got caught in it.

We had to hoof it to the south bank of the Arno early this morning for our pasta making class, a last minute and very welcome addition to our activities.

Two types of stuffed pasta

It was a nice group. A mother/daughter duo from Jersey, a couple from Northern Quebec, and two cousins from England (one from Suffolk; one from I-can’t-remember-where), plus us. Our instructor haled from Mexico but has lived in Florence for 14 years. Check out her serving technique, below.

Of course we got to eat what we made.

Yum!

Then we went to the Duomo and I’m way too exhausted to post about that. Here are some random pix from last few days though.

Early graffiti at Colosseum, demonstrating why word “graffiti” derives from “scratch”

A pleasant surprise!

Food for all the senses: and music as well…how the spontaneous things that can happen on trips, just highlight the moment. I’ve never made pasta so this was a treat to watch.. I think I spotted D helping the instructor with the plating of the pasta. Loved how she twirled it onto the plate and the sauce looked scrumptious…best of all, your family photos. You all look like your souls are being fed by this wonderful trip.

D was the one squirting the basil/olive oil mixture. The music went on and on and was such a treat. People on the street offered up such enthusiastic and genuine cheering at the conclusion of each song.

It looks like you had such a wonderful time exploring there together. You were able to fit in so much!
The pasta experience looked yummy and her plating, such talent. I found the early graffiti at Colosseum so cool.
It’s nice to see you all enjoying.

Food .. Family and fun fun fun!!! So much to see and do .. I’m so happy for your family. With all the dog walking you do it is never enough from keeping you from hurting during travels .. that does not seem fair.

I can’t think of a better thing to do on a rainy day in Florence than making (and eating) pasta! Your son and girlfriend look very sweet and you are looking terrific.

Thanks. My hair cut is driving me nuts and the photos reveal how much I need to lose weight. But I look happy, so there’s that.

I love making pasta … usually a blend of 1 part semolina and 2 parts 00 flour, both findable at better food stores, but probably not as good as that found in Italy … nor nearly as much fun as you all seem to have had
