A dash of red, a dash of fear

We’re weeding a lot this year and planting almost not at all. It’s a strikingly different way to go. I’ve enjoyed the absence of lifting and expense and worry about the survival of new plantings.

But! After placing a geranium in the front bed for our neighbor’s ease of watering while in California recently, I was reminded of the value of pops of red. So this weekend we went and got a few little things plus a buddleia bush for the back yard.

The energy around Harris’s candidacy continues to uplift spirits.

Brattleboro, VT

Until I read about the election deniers occupying critical positions of power, that is. Is there a plan for how to deal with partisan refusals to certify the presidential election results. Is there?

I don’t subscribe to Rolling Stone, but here’s a picture of the headline.

What mess? What deniers? Just point me to the thin-leafed hosta!

As if in answer to this post, a friend sent this out this morning.

Link.

It is so hard, for me, to keep that fear to only a dash. Everyday, we learn something new, which is not always good news. sigh.
The garden looks so pretty. You’ve reminded me that red geraniums, according to Feng Shui, outside the front door is supposed to invite wealth. Too bad my front door is in a hallway!

How about a picture of geraniums, then? PS the “wealth corner” in my basement studio? It’s occupied by a sump pump. Literally pumping extra rain water out of the house. A dark sometimes smelly hole. Jeez!

Thanks for saying it’s you, Grace, although i can almost always tell!

I am watching last night’s Maddow now. I didn’t realize she went into this issue in some detail. Could explain why Trump, in addition to saying to his followers that they won’t need to vote after this year, he ALSO keeps saying he doesn’t need their votes tHiS year.

Red geraniums are a must for me during summer. My Dad would have them going down the front steps of our home in summer so I grew up with this as a way to welcome summer. Have planted red geraniums every place we have lived.

I’m still thinking on your “Kamala” t-shirt; so very cool. to that end, yesterday I donated $ to her victory fund and also purchased a t-shirt, tote bag and 2 buttons. Intend to wear the t-shirt, (it arrives on Aug. 12th), carry the tote bag and pin the buttons to my bag and whatever top I wear.

Fear is a slippery emotion; some things we can stand and face, others we have no control over. I do not take lightly that there will be forces in place that will wreck havoc…

When we lived in TN, I carried a tote bag with Obama’s face stenciled on one side and I took that tote bag everywhere I went. My intent was hopefully to strike up some conversations but not even close and from the many looks I received, it is a wonder that I am still standing and I am not exaggerating. I doubt I will be met with that same reaction here in New Mexico. A test will come when I take my husband to the VA hospital next month for several appointments. I fully intend to wear my Harris shirt, pin and carry my tote bag. It is a place that I think may spark some looks that may also lead to some conversations…I hope so because engaging in civil conversation is how we respect each other and in doing, help to strengthen democracy.

You are a perfect person to offer civil conversations.

A while back I sent my son a Hickenlooper sign for his yard in Longmont Colorado and he considered it too much of a risk to plant in his yard. I want to get a shirt that is more immediately recognizable for Kamala. And yes, I’ve given to her campaign too.

that is one group, there may be more.
I was a poll worker one year… in a very safe Dem neighborhood. It was a long difficult day even with no issues.

people gotta vote by mail. But DeJoy is still in charge 🙁
the guy who dismantled the mail sorting machines is he, still there are no mail sorting machines.

I’m walking the dog with my stupid phone…

If Biden’s latest nominee for the Postal Board goes through, there will at last be enough people to remove him. It in time for mail-in voting?

Thanks for the link. I worked a couple of elections too. Until Covid kept me home.

Started watching the program Grace wrote about .. Joy Reid on MSNBC talking about 2025. It is all just so insanely scary .. I can’t / don’t understand how this was all able to happen. I desperately want to believe that things cannot get worse .. only better but everyday I see or hear something that makes me think the worst is yet to come.
Dee your garden is absolutely beautiful.

Rachel Maddow’s report chilled me too. The machinations under the surface of our political framework feel like a creeping cancer.
