Tuesday (early) checklist

One, Check on fires

Eaton Fire seems unchanged, though warning area greatly expanded. Warning area expanded all the way east of Torrance and Redondo Beach where C works and lives. Santa Clarita where Nancy lives at heightened risk.

Two, start Spelling Bee.

(Wordle and Connections done at midnight).

Three: Bookmark Jack Smith’s Report, Part One.

Linked here for later (174 pages).

Four: listen to Robert Hubbell while throwing treats around the backyard for Finn

Today’s episode is titled, “‘Special Counsel: Donald Trump Would Have been Convicted.

Curse Aileen Cannon with renewed fervor.

Five: Set TV to record confirmation hearings.

Pete Hegseth. Have Dems been afforded a copy of FBI check on him yet?

Six: record a visitor at the Eating Rock (so named because in the fall, squirrels crack open black walnuts on it).

Seven: put on fleece-lined shoes for walk. It’s 27 degrees.

    for me :
    5) Read Dee’s blog
    4) check to-do list
    3) ready 1/2 the house for cleaning crew.
    2) forgot the cleaners were coming at 8am.
(this is the life have always dreamed of, but you know that already).
    1) check on the fires even tho’ I’m far away and everyone I know in LA is ok for the moment.
(Could I evacuate w/2minutes warning? No. But I’m thinking, no matter where one lives in this country, one should start preparing for the worst. LA couldn’t be a more clear sign. And the animals. Suddenly much of my stuff looks expendable but not the animals.)
Assuming all your family have their cars packed and know their escape routes – maybe by heart.
I am also wondering how I can help in the larger world. I’m back to the gym but still not very strong. And, I wish I owned a truck.
Sending love and thank you more for sharing all that you do.

Dee~ We share the same #1. We are fine (is this my new mantra?) – we are not in any warning or evacuation area. There is nothing near us at the moment, 11:48 AM. My sister is still evacuated. My house is oddly prepped/not prepped…watching. No real wind to speak of.

The rest of the world news is a bit much to take in, so I touch just the bare bones, enough to know something. yuc.

The squirrel is adorable, eating quickly with tiny ‘hands’. Makes me smile 🙂
    Be well.

Nix the wind comment. J. was just out back, I think we have more wind than I can see from the house. But, we are still okay 🙂

Really good advice in the Robert Hubell newsletter about staying in the present and news consumption. Thank you for that. As much as I sometimes want to look away, I do feel like it is important to pay attention…

My news consumption is down to reading headlines and the occasional article … commentary be damned as the prognosticators are wrong as often as they are right, so what’s the point?

There was a tiny glimmer of good news in Texas as the state house elected a Republican leader who actually works with Democrats rather than reviling them. And our district is represented by a hard-working, whip smart Democratic woman (I’ll always love that she brought her newborn to the legislature during her first term).

Have you tried alphaguess.com yet? It’s my latest word addiction.

Oooh a new word game! No I haven’t.

I hear you about the commentators. I just subscribed to Contrarian tho. Jennifer Rubin (who quit the WaPo to start it) and Norm Eisen. I like it. This morning I could watch three senators grilling Hegseth. I could not watch the many hours I recorded yesterday. Could not. Turned it off after Hegseth starting thanking his lord Jesus Christ in his opening statement.
