Here are a few pix from yesterday, Newton Center, where there was a lively and vibrant scene.

A lot of dogs attended, so I can forgive Ken this photo, below (his other hand holds the leash — tightly).

Those are all neighbors from my street, so we were well-represented.

We’d come right from Williamstown where we’d spent the night in a super shabby motel.

I didn’t select it with my usual rigor. At least the room didn’t smell bad?
Tomorrow — some beautiful shots from the Clark Institute (below).

In spite of the eleventh hour critiques of the No Kings Day Rallies, I’m super proud of us — all 7 million of us. If the main point was to demonstrate how incredibly unpopular Trump is, we succeeded. “Who cares?” was his response. Obviously, he does.
The AI video of him flying a jet and releasing streams of shit on protestors ought to be the basis for the 25th Amendment, but we know it won’t be.
Onward.
Could a general strike work in this country? It is the next logical step. I’m at least prepared to SKIP SHOPPING for Christmas if that’s what gets organized.

Dee~ I was so heartened to see the protests across the country…and abroad (I saw interviews w/ folks protesting in Germany!). We had a big turn out here, but NONE of the local news outlets have reported on it yet. Mmmm?
That pic of the sky is gorgeous 🙂
It was covered live all day on MSNBC, but today’s NYTimes had a small-font headline below the fold, referring readers to page 23. Shameful.
Yes yesterday was a day where I felt totally proud of America .. where I felt hope that as a people we got this! It really was a good day … thank you to all to made their voices heard.
It was good! I wish I’d collected pix of some of the better signs but honestly I was pooped from the weekend.
Dee, I looked once again and found one article out of the 3 main sources. Blech.
I demonstrated here in my small town and the turnout was great, even in the rain. It is very heartening to see all of the huge demonstrations across the country. I am in favor of a general strike….maybe on Black Friday? I will try to join any economic strike effort that gets off the ground.
Good Friday would hurt a lot of businesses and speak loudly, but I don’t think it’s enough. People way smarter than I must be sorting this out with strategic thinking. At least that’s what I hope. Happy to hear you had great turnout. It is encouraging in a very direct way, isn’t it?
Snapshots from New Mexico: Twice as many participants since the June march with special emphasis on small towns. Over 20 cities held marches. Over 5,000 in Albuquerque, no official count yet on the many in Santa Fe.
Native Americans lent their spiritual power, invoking blessings at the beginning of many marches. One blessing in particular, from the San Ildefonso Pueblo, moved me:
“We acknowledge our ancestors and the connectivity between all the people that are here,”…Because they’re coming from all four directions, like the blessing for the directions calling into energy and the spirit. And we are all energy beings of caring and within us our love, our universal infinity of loving, caring, sharing.”
Some signs made reference to ” I Am Antifa.” One of these signs was carried by a nurse who said caring for people is who we are. Another sign that caught my eye noted:
“Eggs are expensive because all of the chickens are in Congress.”
The Native blessing is so powerful. I’d been to a few Saturday midday protests in my town center but never one this extensive. People lining the streets in three directions. A new seating area full. The green near the parking lot full. So much thinking of horns. I think by now people realize that even passing by and showing support makes a difference.
The chickens in Congress comment is priceless. A friend sent me a picture with this: FIGHT TRUTH DECAY No more lies or Democracy dies.
MSNBC had live coverage all day Saturday. But yesterday the Sunday NYTimes had a small font, below the fold line referring people to page 23 or 26. Outrageous.
I (F 62) attended my first ever protest in Independence, MO – home of Harry Truman. Weather was beautiful and there were lots of good signs, dogs and honking cars around the square. Then this morning I went for my regular 6-mo. Dr. visit. My BP is high. It’s NEVER been high. Can the state of our country make blood pressure rise? I know it can make it blood boil, so I may have answered my own question.
Congratulation on participating! I think the destruction of our government is affecting my sleep as well.
