On first glance at the owl, I thought of a peace dove…and the news of the day, the evil has renamed the US Institute of Peace in his name’ totally delusional and such an insult that it is all I can do not to get hoarse from yelling.
I really wanted to write something whimsical, light, in keeping with the coming of the light of the Winter Solstice, the holly jolly of the season but these are not light days. Still, I managed to get to the post office this morning to mail the few gifts that we send to our family. We have never been big on gifts, preferring to share experiences but we always love getting food gifts and books. Since some in my family will be going to Italy, (Tuscany) next year, a Panforte is one of their gifts. “Panforte is a dense, chewy Italian Christmas cake from Tuscany, made with a mix of dried fruits, nuts, and spices, bound together with a sugar and honey syrup. Unlike a traditional fruitcake, it is baked without a leavening agent and is known for its dense, caramelized texture. It’s traditionally served in thin slices with dessert wine or espresso.” Also in their gift package is the Italian version of torrone; a nougat candy. I grew up with torrone in my Christmas stocking and have it every year. Italian torrone is softer than Spanish torrone which has more nuts and focuses more on almond flavor. The gifts also always include New Mexico food product assorted red and green New Mexican chile powders, biscochitos, New Mexican Christmas cookies, chili flavored pistachios and pecans grown here. The packages were in my Kamala Harris tote bag and the person behind me in line at the post office tapped my shoulder and said, “Oh, if only…”
Such a colorful delicious response this turned out to be, in spite of the affront of that sign, in spite of all the lying and rejiggering of events in the Caribbean by ridiculous spineless republicans. I’m struggling to get in the Christmas spirit. A little bifurcated here since we’ll be in California for ten days in December.
Dee~ Love the billboard! haha Your colors are so rich (always)- beautiful living space. The first gallery/museum (?) photo – the dark one of two folks from behind…reminded me so much of a small, small gallery I went to eons ago (within a casino?)…trying so hard to remember where and with who?? Vegas w/ J. and/or my mom? The memory is floating out there in the darkened rooms, a couple rooms…a cozy space.
Love the fish. I just watched a very simple video on how to draw a fish (and another on a tree), so now I really want to try w/ that and this photo as inspiration. 🙂
Love the last image…and yes, a book cover!
Don’t you love those floating “out there” recollections?
Btw I left a comment on your blog yesterday but I dont think it went thru. Probably operator error. Anyway, I thought it was such a haunting and well written post.
Dee~ I suppose. I try not to let the lack of recollection bother me and just let the details float on by. ha.
Aw, thanks for letting me know. You’re right, in that I did not get any comment from you.
The last one, the owl, feels like a book cover. 🩶
That’s one that I’ve truly lost count of the layers.
