Sick to my stomach

Three abutting properties.

There will be jack hammering. There will be tasteless structures eventually. But did they have to take down almost ALL of the trees?

Every October, former residents of this soon-to-be-rubble structure hung a huge skeleton from the branches of this tree.

At other times, they hung a bicycle outlined with white lights.

Next door to that place is this place. It’s been empty for over a year.

Further down the street. One of a half dozen places we’ve seen go down. On this street alone.

And this apartment structure used to be a one story mall with a Fortune Panda and terrible sushi place. Right around the corner from us. I mind it less than the “dentist office chic” houses going up but it will add at least fifteen cars coming and going through an intersection that has already become unworkable.

Dee~ Oh, gosh. I’m so sorry. When home no longer looks or feels like the home we’ve known. sigh.
I’m so sorry it is so yucky and wrong.

Yeah. It’s many years of ongoing noise and construction and mostly ugly transformation. This one made me physically sick to walk by tonight

This does sound very irritating at best and at worst makes you want to move away. But there may be too many good things in the area and in your house to ditch. I think ear covers that can seriously mute the jack hammering are important. It will be over at some point and looking at the lack of trees and the unattractive buildings is something you can stop doing. I think
giving up your house is not good.
Being away while the construction is ongoing may help a lot. I’m sorry this is happening!!

Thanks for supplying a balanced view. I do wear noise cancelling headphones during the worst jack hammering or retreat to the basement which insulates noise well.

So sad to see this. Is something large going to be built on all the lots or individual houses? Loved the brick house. I could never understand why the existing landscape trees be incorpated into new structures. It takes so many years for tress to grow that size. I cry with you.

I have no idea what the plan is but it will be to maximize profit. So two single family homes and an empty lot will likely be filled with a series of town homes. Oversized. Possibly ugly. Although I have to say the abutting property filled their tear down lot with really lovely townhouses. Maybe it’s the same developer.

quite aside from the aesthetics of modern building (rather, the lack thereof), it is the sadness that comes from recognizing the wastefulness of our culture

Yes. One house that was torn down around the corner was full of dishes and utensils and paintings. I took a couple small things (pot holders) but the rest went under.

Tearing down trees to build who knows what is so senselessly sad; spaces, homes, neighborhoods need trees, need nature. I am so sorry about this Dee.

We lived in TN for five years on a half an acre rental property that bordered a little creek. Many fir saplings were along the creek so we asked our landlord if we could uproot some and plant a small grove not far from the rental property. He agreed and so we did and they grew up to 5 feet by the time we left. When Winter Solstice came, I would decorate the grove of trees with dried orange slices, cranberry and popcorn chains, to bring joy to the neighborhood and the birds. The week before we left, the landlord came driving over with his son on two tractors with these huge scoopers and uprooted and tossed aside every single tree; there were 8 of them. I ran out of the house, yelling at him and asking why. He looked at me and said they were too close to the house which was not the truth…to this day I never understood why he did this.

Went to get a cup of tea and came back thinking that maybe this act of violence was possibly payback on two levels:
I was an Obama supporter and this was red country. He had seen me wearing my Obama t-shirt and pin and carrying my Obama tote bag, daily, much as I do here with my Harris tote bag….OR, maybe he was angry that he had not been able to recruits us to his church. He was a Baptist minister,we did not know this when we rented the place or we may not have done so!

This country is so wasteful it is just horrifying. Why can’t they just rehab houses like they used to. Developers have taken over our towns in a most detrimental way.
