Spied this yesterday. I’ve probably walked past it 1,000’s of times. Looks like a goat or a demon.
Unable to sleep last night, the word I kept hearing in my head is broken. As in, “our country is broken” or “I feel broken.”
At Davos, Canadian PM Carney used the word “rupture” (as distinct from “transition”).
Meanwhile the ruination of this neighborhood continues (“ruination”). The smaller of the two brick structures around the corner is gone.
It is so easy to tear things down.
It’s so easy to kidnap five-year-olds or use them as bait.
Minneapolis has a lot to be proud of. I didn’t know until recently what a hearty lot they were. Today is an across the board work stoppage. They are setting an example.
Ending one sentence with “of” and another with “were,” I guess my grammar is broken too.
The book group I was invited to this weekend has rescheduled because of the storm. I was eager (and a bit nervous?) to hear what ten or 12 Black women think about my book. It’ll have to wait until April now.
I couldn’t watch all of the Jack Smith hearing. So much frothy GOP bullshit. I miss the days when evidence actually served as proof of something.
Dog had the right idea…..I don’t watch…the spin (spittle) is more than I can take at my age. Hoping for an oil delivery before Maine Freezes.

Dee~ Isn’t it funny how we can see something that was there all along? We still talk about the stand alone gate for months and months as we walked at city park! Why didn’t we see it for so long! haha
Totally agree, and faster…things can be ripped apart so fast, but take so long to create (thinking about a quilt here…hours of work could be cut apart in minutes!)

…man I wrote that terribly! The stand alone gate, that we did not see for months and months. It was there, I went back and looked at old pics…it was there. Why did we never notice, til we did? haha
I cut up a global warming panel which was itself pieced sections of other quilts. I had machine embroidered Trump quotes on it from his first presidency. I couldn’t bear to have his stupid and misguided words on my lap. So after once upon a time carefully butting up the edges of 3 separate quilt sections, I cut them up. Snip. Snip. Snip. Those sections will go into the garbage, which since you know me, is really saying something.
We also are also preparing for the winter storm here in New Mexico. Snow in the higher elevations starting at 12″ and possibly as much as 24″. I live near Albuquerque, in central New Mexico, and snow for us could be as much as 6″‘ which is a big deal around here. Yesterday, like many others across the nation, I got groceries and as I write this, a pot of red lentil soup is on the stove.
May boycotts continue throughout the land as Minnesota leads the way, holding strong. I get this notion of strength and integrity because I married a Minnesotan, a man of few words a quiet but strong, compassionate man. always ready to lend a helping hand,always doing the right thing in terms of community and Democracy.. So snow and ice will be falling and here in New Mexico, we are hoping that ICE will also fall because many Minnesotans have been transported to an ICE facility here. Our state leaders are doing their damn best to make this so: “New Mexico lawmakers advanced an immigration detention bill out of committee Thursday afternoon after Republican representatives warned it could irreparably harm rural economies. House Bill 9, known as the Immigrant Safety Act, would prohibit government entities across the state from signing contracts to detain people accused of federal immigration violations. Lawmakers on the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee voted 4-2 to move the bill. The move came as dozens of immigrants arrested in Minneapolis were shipped to the Torrance County Detention Facility, which is run by private prison operator CoreCivic, in New Mexico.” Info from Source NM.
I made a big pot of lentils yesterday too! Brown ones with tomatoes and garlic and spices and onions. Topped with cukes in a yogurt dressing.
It is certainly hard to watch how much of our society is involved in all of this. Including the 7 Democrats that voted to fund ICE with a ton more money. I read one long thread that said there were some meagerly beneficial provisions in the bill as well but most of what I’m seeing online is outrage at Democrats.
Another thing I read this week that I keep thinking about is how everyone everywhere is always mad at democrats and that some of the most vocal critiques rise up right after democrats accomplish something decent. I am going to keep an eye on that dynamic.

I’m playing chicken with the storm a little, visiting family north of Athens. We’re on the edge of whatever, but my radar readers tell me it won’t start until late afternoon. I’ll be on the road midday.

I made a big batch of stew, which can be heated on our gas stove top if we lose electricity … hopefully the Texas grid holds up better than it did five years ago, but I’m skeptical and the empty shelves at the food stores indicate I’m not alone.
Canadian PM Carney sounded so wonderfully sane that I dared to hope the “middlers” will pull the world through the crises that surround us on every side. That said, my morning paper read that ICE is now “legally” breaking into homes is horrifying.

It’s nine degrees here. We just held signs in Newton Center for about 45 minutes. Snow starts tomorrow and if stays fluffy like they’re saying, we should be okay.
New Beginnings & Renewal: As a pioneer species, birch signifies rebirth, new journeys, and starting over, even after destruction.
I’ve always loved birch trees .. it can represent many things. I think it’s interesting that the destruction of your neighborhood and birch trees are both in this post. Please don’t think I’m making light of what’s happening all around you .. I would find that upsetting too.
Interesting to hear that about birches. They are quite short-lived, as trees go, so maybe that’s why they signal rebirth and starting over?
