Gloucester Rites

My mother’s birthday is in two days so it seemed a fitting Sunday to pop up to Gloucester and visit her grave.

I couldn’t remember where the cemetery was or its name. Fortunately Ken has a good memory for places and travel routes and got us there no trouble.

We brought a picture of Danny and an old hand sculpture that once belonged to my sister. Weather will damage both of course.

The lichen was pretty but obscured her name. Ken cleared most away.

I wrote my mother a letter in the car on the way up. At the stone, I silently talked with her. She was helpful, as I would have expected.

And then it was time for our annual meal at Woodman’s. Finn was flummoxed that he didn’t get any table scraps but when whole belly clams cost close to $1 each, that’s a NO.

Our AC crapped out two days ago. Ken is down in the cellar right now replacing the fan’s motor. I sure hope it’s the fix required because this heat and humidity is fairly unbearable.

My oven and washer crapped out in us this month. Must be that Aquarius age kicking back a bit. Very annoying to loose AC during a heatwave. Kinda makes me happy with our old school window ACs.

I’m glad your mom gave you some good advice. I wonder if she and Noreen travel in the same ethers. I’m not sure Alice would chat except to tell me to work on the garden. Plant more flowers. Dig in the dirt.

We were in Maine this week for a quick 3 days. I didn’t know what the belly clams were. Next time I
    Will go for it. Xo

Yeah I wonder about Noreen too.

Oven AND washer? Ugh. A friend’s washing machine gave out this week and her house has been sold, so she’s replacing it for someone else! At least it’s tax-free weekend in Mass.

Three days was quick? But then you had that absolutely beautiful space to come back to.

Yes and the trip up (once it stopped raining) was okay. We stayed mostly by wells and york. Olgunquit is nice but too freaking crowded.

Wow that would puss me off after a house sale! Pisses me off that mine is only 2 years old so they are going to have to come and fix it. These things are disposables these days.

One more happy thing to share that seems to fit the New England theme. . .We were at the in-laws and my brother in law gave me Martha? George? Washington summer spreads that belonged to my mother in law. Love them! Makes the trip to the laundromat a bit better knowing they will wash and dry quick!

Yes the white one with the bumps. I love them. Had one nice. I think I gave it to Alice when she moved north. In any case now I have more than enough!

Dee~ Your visit is so touching. I’m glad it felt good. Heat and things breaking and Finney-Boys dreams of a treat…deep days of summer, eh. Take care.

Oh dear. Ken is an engineer. He can figure out the most intricate stuff. Wires. Plugs. Batteries. Motors. Vents. Compressors. Eesh.
