Bird feeder

Bird feeder: that’s me. I’m the bird feeder. Tony, our mailman, now calls me the “turkey whisperer.”

But where have the sparrows gone?

Most days this summer, I could count between 25 and 50 of them out front at any given moment. Two to three in the water bowls. Two waiting their turn for a bath. A cotillion clustered in the branches of the wisteria waiting for a spot at the feeders. And then of course, the flapping hungry commotion at the feeders themselves.

They don’t migrate so all I can figure is that people in the neighborhood are seeding their lawns and the grass seed makes for tastier dining, but I don’t really know.

PS This is weird. If you’re on Threads you’ll know that a recent QC cover of a decidedly unsexy-looking Tom Cruise has produced a wave of responses, most along the lines of yuck. Other responses include pictures of men in their sixties who truly do look hot. I took it upon myself to add to the fray with a picture from Much Ado About Nothing (which is about sexiness but not elder sexiness, so I kind of missed the assignment). Nevertheless, it has garnered at latest count more than 7,000 likes. What is going on people?

I try to feed the birds but it seems I am really feeding the chipmunks. Plenty for all to eat here anyway. Might be cheaper to just watch.
What’s going on people?… seems the question of the day…

We feed lots of squirrels and chipmunks too. Fortunately the rat that came by a few weeks back has not been back!

I couldn’t sleep last night so found myself
going down the “witchy” rabbit hole. So many women awake at four and making all kinds of assumptions about what that means!

There was a Costco run yesterday so I was in bed by 10, exhausted. Awakened fully at 130, then spent the rest of the night thrashing the pillows, unable to get back to a resting state. What stars were misaligned?

That’s me nearly every night. Waking sometime between 3am and 4am, then tossing until I fall back asleep for a 5am-7am nice deep sleep. My friend says we need a bat signal so we can see who all is up at 4am! I bet the sky would be LIT!

3 am is my usual get up time since I go to bed around 8pm but then read, most night, until about 10pm. I am a total lark, never an owl. Rich was an owl so sometimes, I would be getting up as he would be coming to bed!

No turkeys or many birds here but there are bears; in fact, since June, here in Rio Rancho, NM, there have been 14 bears sightings. On Sept 1st, at Cabezon Park, a park not far from where I live, a bear was captured up in a tree. The most recent sighting was on Sept. 10th, another bear, also up in a tree near an industrial park. The bears are captured, sometimes tranquilized and then Dept of fish and Game set them free up in the mountains. These sightings are highly unusual so I did some research and found that since the year 2000, only 3 bars have been seen in Rio Rancho.

Due to the severe drought and intense heat that we have been experiencing, that could explain why but I like my grandson’s explanation best. When I told my grandson about the bear sightings, he laughed and said he had an explanation. He said that Grandpa’s spirit animal was the bear so it is only fitting that many have come to pay their respects to the ultimate, majestic bear, his Grandpa…well that set off some tears, as well as laughter…

Dee & all~ I have been an owl all of my life, though I wish for larkhood. But, last night – the deep sleep of allergy meds since mosquitoes feasted on my arms on Wednesday. Huge reaction and misery…but the meds knock me out! Normally we are like Marti and Rich 🙂 Nice to know there is so much company out there with the stars.
We don’t feed the birds here, but had a big thing going with them at the old place. Love to watch them. Many neighbors have hummingbird feeders. They are so fast, barely can see ’em!! haha
