Thinking about technology and blogging habits. I don’t know what’s happening these days. I seem to have wandered away in a more thorough way than I have in the past. So little photography happening too. It’s just weird.
I think I need to either throw myself in with renewed and amped up commitment or walk away.
And if it’s the former (and of course it’s the former. I would miss my cyber-fiber friends way too much), I’m guessing that an iPad would make all the difference.
I rarely sit at the desk top anymore. I have an old iPhone with a teeny screen and it’s tough to read and comment on others’ blogs from here.
So. What do you think?
I got an iPad just last year, and I use it more often than my computer. I love it—and I was very reluctant to get it…but having an 11 year old has made me do things involving technology that I would not have done otherwise. I can’t imagine not having one now. And, I wa t you to keep blogging. I love your posts!!
Thanks Diane both for the feedback and for confirming my hunch. It’s a big splurge but I think I’m gonna go for it.
I am an iPad gal. Love it. Portable and easy. I enjoy reading your posts in my email…but I know how time consuming it is to keep up. I haven’t posted anything since 2014! I really needed the break. Now I’m also deciding whether or not to get it going again. Good luck on your decision Dee.
Thanks shishi. I rely on my wordpress side bar and a feedly app for blog reading mainly because I spend half my life deleting emails as it is and couldn’t stand to get more. But please let me know if you (when you?) get up and running again!
I work with a 2008 model iMac & enjoy visiting half a dozen blogs regularly, yours is one of them
do you like sitting where your iMac is? I’m wondering about that, too. (and thank you — you are the best reader on the planet… and I thoroughly enjoy your blog, too — probably don’t need to say that, but still…)
I do not need to look at screens anywhere except here at my desk!
re screens, don’t watch TV, have adblocker set up on the iMac so I don’t have to see any ads on newspaper websites or facebook (which I try to avoid visiting but there is some funny things like Boaty McBoatface that Old Man Crow makes sure I see, he has an iPhone and a Mac laptop but he’s a Gemini musician and is much more sociable than I am) don’t subscribe to any feeds, I like visiting people when I think of them rather than being prompted by a machine & can look at Instagram but not respond as I don’t have a smart phone, can’t really see the point of it but lots of busy artists seem to prefer it, and re superfluous e-mails, the best thing I have done in years was let my old e-mail address a few months ago along with the redundant old website, no spam at all and only a few e-mails a week!
it’s an interesting world, yes? i don’t have any pads of any kind, just this desk top thing.
it’s enough. and there are fewer and fewer respondents in the comment section by the day it seems. So you think…WHY?
still for me, it’s Witnessing my Self. Why?, don;t know. Just do it and do it every day.
I’ve thought, just recently, about the year you made a commitment to post everyday. How that changed things for you. And it continues. Has this life. As for blogs in general? I wonder. Maybe- I don’t know. Maybe I just have to say okay. Now I’m doing this.
Can’t suggest, that is for you to decide. I use my Mama’s old 2008 Mac laptop, which is slowly dying off. It is so slow and freezes…very frustrating. Time and energy wise, I’ve lost my way with writing my own blog and reading others frequently too. There are a few I get to most of the time, but it is not like it was years ago. Why? Not sure. Only that I’m more tired and right now there is family emergency stuff. Have considered not blogging anymore. In the past month or so, I’ve planned several posts, complete with all the photos I’ve taken and written none of them. I question why I put it “out there” in this format anyway. The importance? Unsure. With all of that said…I do like coming over here to your blog house and have been so glad to have made your friendship over the years. What a blessing.
I’ve been enjoying instagram. are you there? it’s less tangled up, somehow, and quick, and yet, there are some points of connection… not a good substitute for blogging, but maybe something to do until you get your energy back?
See, if I were you (and I’m not), I would wonder how much my pause in blogging had to do with a computer that freezes and drags and how much had to do with the other stuff.
I can’t but recommend the iPad very warmly, It is so practical and fast. I am working with it already for several years. First an old one with 16 GB – which was too little (they are no more on sale). I do everything on it, blogging, reading and writing e-mails, newspapers. Visiting blogs (yours up to now rather anonymiously). And taking photos. The camera is very good !! And I even have an extern keyboard to write fast. You will have to learn a lot but with the knowledge of an iPhone a great footstep is already done. And don’t be afraid to get addicted – you will know when it is enough! I do!
Hi Anaslua.. glad to have a name now, though I recognize you by your voice. I’m also glad to get another recommendation and PS your comment reminds me of two other impediments — my phone having only 16GB and a router that for some reason has trouble keeping me connected to wifi in two out of the three places I sit in this house. It helped a lot to get rid of all the music, so I didn’t have to download pix every other minute for lack of storage.
You recognize me by my voice – ha ha, probably by my strange English.
My sense is you should do what makes you happy, sooner rather than later …
These days I seem to say “It’s only money” and “Life is short” quite often. However, I have the luxury of a recent inheritance that was enough to remove the financial stresses that were part and parcel of my working years.
Congrats! that’s great news about inheritance. C is graduating in two weeks and D is going to take a year off, so it’s not like we’ve come into money or anything but we will go very suddenly from paying two full tuitions to paying none. Breathing space. Might get a dead tree taken down, too! Been bugging me for years.
