“Are you coming?”
On the curb down the street — of course I grabbed them. Just what I need (not)!
The geometry of picket fences has captured my imagination of late.
I’ve always loved gates. Places of entry and transition.
Finn and I will spend a portion of the day out here — drinking ice water and writing for me, chasing squirrels or occupying wedges of shade for him.
Love the first Christmas tree in the bunch, leaning left (ha!) … yeah, I would have grabbed them, too
I have at least this many already but look at them! And I hadnβt thought about the βleft leaningβ tree. Good one!
Dee, what a gift your photo of cookie cutters was this morning because i head tripped on them and imagined myself outside dancing in snow flurries- quite the illusion given the heat here in New Mexico…! I get up very early in the mornings and go outside for a walk or to work in the garden between 6 and 8 am because starting at about 9 am, it begins to be too hot to be outside in New Mexico. I live at almost 5,300 ft elevation here and when the sun comes, it is blazing hot! Try to have all errands i.e. grocery shopping, etc. done by noon.
Monsoon season is supposed to be now but nary a drop and over 99% of the state is in severe drought. Water is gold here so we have curtailed our garden this year in order not to use as much water but still manage to grow a few veggies and herbs; early this morning my harvest consisted of a few handfuls of baby spinach, two galloon zip locks of Swiss chard, 4 cherry tomatoes and basil for making pesto this week. Our usual assortment of wild flowers, cosmos, and zinnias is not happening this year. Planted no flowers but happily the birds dropped so many sunflower seeds that they are coming up randomly along the side of the house nearest the kitchen windows so when they grow, we will reap the benefit of some shade. And this concludes your weather and farm report from Rio Rancho, New Mexico!.
Thank you, Marti. You are the only blogger I know who imparts her wisdom and paints her images in the comments section of other bloggers. For some reason, this reads to me like an exalted form of generosity.
Stay cool! Hard to imagine snow in a day like this!
Thanks Dee; not sure about wisdom but I do like to “talk story” a phrase that I learned when I lived in Maui and it fits how I respond when moved to comment on blogs that I read. Plus the fact that I don’t blog, may have something to do with my responses as well…Now then, wouldn’t you know that as soon as I sent this comment, our weather has cooled and looks like we will be about 5 degrees cooler this week, in the mid 90’s as opposed to the 100’s,with the possibility of some thunder showers coming mid week SO maybe by writing my weather report and thinking of snow flurry dancing, I am helping to bring on the monsoon rains. Rain dance cyber style!!
So not just generosity hen but outright sorcery? Nothing would surprise me. A cookie cutter salvaged from the curb in New England causing storm clouds to convene in New Mexico!
They leave cookie cutters in the streets in New England? Lucky lucky. What a score. I love picket fences too although they are not too common in this area. We have been having a traditional June here in the great Northwest…rainy and chilly. Local lore says that summer will begin on July 5. I would like to share our cool moist weather with you and Marti, but must admit to some relief that it is again like it used to be after some unsettlingly warm recent Junes.
am warming my hands on the heat rising from your photos on this chilly winter morning in the Land Down Under
I never thought much about the seasons being opposite in parts of the globe before knowing you. It enlarges me world to keep this awareness going.
Such beauty in those picket passage ways and the architecture says both stay our and come on in. Meanwhile, we too sizzle down here in the big fried apple and I limit myself to one outing per day, preferably before 7AM or after 7PM. Lots of cold and ready to eat in the firidge, A/C smoothly keeping a comfort level set at 77degreesEC and so far the electric grid is holding it’s own. My thoughts are on the non stop wild fires in California.
typo Stay OUT and Come IN
There are a bunch of fires in Colorado too. We are going soon and had to switch one Airbnb for another because in Buena Vista all internet is out and cell service spotty (cell tower some distance away down). Instead weβll stay in Boulder the whole time.
Glad youβre staying cool. Walks with Finn have gotten quite short in these temps.
PS–Your typo…have I mentioned this? My name is SLATER not SKATER.
Love your cookie cutter photo…and the trees especially! If I shove the remaining piles out to my curb, will you come take them away? Wishing you cool breezes…
You have no idea how many piles of my own shit I have to sort and cart away!!
Cute cutters! I have a tiny selection left, that I only kept when I saw Jude dye with the rusty edges! lol I too have a gate thing, which I believe comes from a childhood memory. Silly as it seems, I especially like short (maybe 4 ft) chain link fences with the curly cue things on top. π Sigh. I’m here late, but no matter as I can STILL chime in with the heat talk! Ugh. Much more boring than Marti’s story talk (which I adore).
I chime in late all the time. Iβve heard from my son in California that anything under three digits feels cool these days! So I hope you are pacing yourself.
