She reminds me to breathe. She reminds me that I am not my opinions of myself. She says, “open your palms, like so.”

How much snow will fall this year?

A crooked hem is still a hem. Nail holes have personality.

Last week I learned that the word “amethyst” comes from the Greek “not intoxicated” and that the gem was once used as a remedy against drunkenness. My birthstone.

We are rolling up to my 35th anniversary of not drinking. Never being drunk. That’s not a brag or an admission, but it feels worth mentioning.

A bear is struggling to be born. It cracks me up almost as much as the fart scene in Slow Horses last night.

Some little critters are coming out to celebrate the season.

The simpler the better is my holiday theme this year. We will be in Los Angeles for the last week of December.

I commented this morning on grace’s blog post about how this time of the year, this season , holds so much, especially when we bring out old cherished decorations and items that hold deep meaning for us. Simple things that give us trips into nostalgia, with all of its good memories and its bittersweet ones as well…
On our umbrella plant, that acts as our indoor Christmas tree since my tree is outside, a red bow, lots of white fairy lights and a simple wooden carved little bear with a thin green ribbon. The name Rich is printed on the bear’s belly. It was purchased for my husband Rich at a Christmas market in Leavenworth, WA the Bavarian tourist town that we lived in many years ago. Rich’s middle name is Herbert, a name that he has never liked so he calls himself, Rich “A bear” My girls and now our grandchildren as well, always, make sure there is at least one little bear around this time of year for him.
Your critters hold so much in their little selves, I just love them. They remind us that joy comes best not in big, glitzy packages but in the simple joys of making and sharing what we love, year after year..
O
I love bears too. Have for so many years! And nice, of course. And in the last few years, fox are creeping in. Last night we heard coyotes yipping from over at the schoolyard, so they really ought to be making an appearance!
We’ll be putting white lights on our potted palm tree this weekend. They make anything look like magic!
She looks a bit weary? Or? But the garden statue looks so peaceful…the contrast in facial expressions! The critters are delightful! I love their leaf mode of transportation! Please show Bear again as it forms. Love the wooden one.
I enjoyed your positive take on that lil one. My mind went to “screentime” & how old, still with a bottle?! haha
Be well
I could not believe how adroit that little fella was at managing his bottle and a large smart phone. It made me a little sad honestly.
A lot of this and that .. each one awakening a place and or time worth remembering. Sometimes I wonder if we lost all our things would we still remember?? I can honestly say I don’t think I would.
Same. Photos too. Who am I without the pictures I’ve taken?
Amethyst is my birthstone as well! 😀
