A no-storm storm

Supposedly it’s turning to snow at 11:00. Probably snowing out past 495 and south of here. Everything closed: schools, courts, municipal buildings.

Really? Even if it came roaring in as predicted, what happened to shoveling out your driveway as a completely routine part of winter?

Meanwhile, I love that quote about flying from a Faith Ringgold story quilt (which is actually silk-screened on cloth with machine stitching). We got out to Worcester to see her show at the Worcester Art Museum. What a treat!

I’ve had to piece some letters for the baby quilt commission which means bumping into my own spasticity. Getting angles wrong for the corner of the “P” and reversing background and foreground. Stupid stuff. Anyway, I like my “H’s”.

Wow. That’s a lot of snow. They were predicting 8 to 12 here up until last night and then revised downward.

Appliqué could work. This blanket will be used and washed a lot and I’m thinking piecing is a little more durable?

I love that top quilt, so filled with story!! I’d like to read all of the quotes chosen to be placed there.
Good luck with the letters. I have nothing else to say, except I stink at that kind of thing.
That building is grand with the curves echoing throughout. Nice photo Dee.
I would also like to know more of the story on the ‘doll’. You reminded me of a similar doll that I gave to a preschool in Takoma Park, MD (we had communicated on FB quite a bit, back in the day). But, I’m sure this one has far more story to go with it. 🙂

That “doll” was life-sized. Ringgold’s mother was a fashion designer and made the dress. Faith painted the faces on canvas. They were impressive. I’ll post the two together later.

We saw a Faith Ringgold quilt at Crystal Bridges … which brought back memories of reading Tar Beach when I was an elementary school librarian … which in turn reminded me of Bar Beach on Long Island, adjacent to the town landfill
