Daffodils and Ink Woman

We went to Wellesley College on Sunday to see the daffodils but it was too early or too cold or both. What a wind was afoot!

It was so cold, we abbreviated our walk.

Hellebores were putting on a good show, even if the daffodils weren’t.

A surprise package from Holland came last week. Inside — “Ink Woman,” a collage by the talented Saskia. Totally unexpected!

I just love Saskia’s work. She’s a visual artist with a real knack for storytelling. I don’t know how, but she manages to be both serious and whimsical and her creatures are particularly delightful. I’ve watched her work evolve over the last many years and it’s exciting because she is so very original and keeps taking risks. There’s a fearlessness at work that I admire.

This is a shitty photo but it will have to do for now because she left her post on the windowsill and is hiding from me right now!

The photo above is a little deceptive. It’s shot across the top of my zoom screen toward the window.

PS I got my hair cut this afternoon. It looks very “Karen of the PTA” to me now but I’ll get used to it. I really needed a change. Maybe I’ll post a picture tomorrow. Pretty wiped at the moment.

I’m sitting here wondering how cold ‘cold’ is to you. It is not cold here. It’s fairly warm, especially in the sun. But, at the bridge the wind was a bit nippy and I simply was not in the mood for chilly ears. Period. I cut my walk really short.
The “Hellebores” are beautiful. I’ve never heard of them before. They look like paper in your photo. So, not only cloth-paper (as Jude says)…but flower – paper too 🙂
Lucky you to have a surprise from Saskia. I agree with all you wrote about her and her wonderful work. I treasure my time spent at her place (online of course) and the cloth work of hers I keep within sight in the bedroom. How fun for you to look over your ZOOM call to see her in the window!
Can’t wait to see your new haircut!

It was 27 degrees when I woke up on Sunday and there was a chilly wind on the mostly open campus of Wellesley so it felt a lot colder. I mean cold. Wear and hat AND A hood cold.

I will never forget the first spring here .. we were driving along lake drive and all I could see were the hundreds of daffodils in bloom. My very new husband was mortified that I begged him to stop the car so I could pick a few. We still laugh about that each spring when we do our daffodil drive.
You described Saskia’s artistic style perfectly .. it’s been fun watching her grow into a true artist. Lucky us to be along on her journey.
