#SistersinLaw

What a day to see #SistersInLaw on stage — Joyce Vance, Jill Wine-Banks, Kimberly Atkins Stohr, and Barbara McQuade — the very same evening that a NY jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts! He is now a convicted felon.

It softened me to the pundits’ late arrival — presumably they had to rejigger their comments.

My friend and I were checking the Times and Twitter as we headed to town on the Pike. Scroll scroll. Verdict in! Scroll scroll. Alvin Bragg just entered the courtroom. Scroll scroll. The judge’s clerk has entered. Scroll again. A slip of paper! And then boom. Boom, 34 times. It was one of those — I’ll always remember where I was when moments. At the Copley exit with Ellen.

Of course the mood was high at the Shubert Theatre. The podcast/lawyers got a standing O as they took the stage. Oh, so much joy! It was hard to tell how much excitement was fandom and how much was ebullience at trump finally being held accountable. Who cares? Hallelujah!

It was nice to share that moment as a collective.

They discussed the NY verdict, an electorate still inclined to vote for trump, the problem of Alito and Thomas, the need for court reform, and Aileen Cannon (just so you know, this was a crowd that could also BOO).

Maybe Cannon is on the verge of (finally) being forced to make a ruling that Jack Smith will be able to appeal. I’m not holding my breath.

Barb McQuade occasionally called out the baseball scores (the Sox were playing Detroit. Barb is from Michigan). She was borderline hilarious, kind of a surprise given her TV persona.

Most of the discussion, no matter the topic, landed here: Vote.

Vote, vote, vote.

I’ve heard the podcast drops on Saturday. Of course I’ll listen.

Crossing the Common
Outdoor venue at the Common
Theatre is near Chinatown. We ate nearby and poked around in a grocer before the show.
I’ve got to go back!

Today is more quiet. I’m rereading my manuscript (for the umpteenth time). I found three typos during the hand-off for formatting and graphic design. I know I’ll miss a couple even with this latest effort.

The good news? I find the writing tight, smooth, interesting. Not sure why this continues to surprise me but it does.

I am briefly stepping out of my hiatus because while the following score, Democracy 34, Trump 0, the fact that a convicted felon is allowed to run for office sickens me to no end: Plus how many of his lemmings will change their minds ?

My husband watches a TV channel known as the Story channel, a history/documentation channel. During a commercial, I flipped channels and the hair on the back of my head stood up as the special reports started coming in. The swiftness of the jury reaching a verdict could mean one thing and that was that the great evil was going to be acquitted. I gut clenched and then could not believe my eyes as the word guilty after guilty scrolled 34 times across the screen; I gave the biggest yell of my life… when the euphoria died down, my feelings turned to the reality that I mentioned in my first paragraph – a convicted felon is running for the highest office of the land UNLESS…he is confined to home, cannot campaign and his minions botch the whole thing…that is a big UNLESS!

From Robert Reich last night: “Convicted felon Donald J. Trump has attacked the judge and prosecutors, but he will find it far more difficult to attack the twelve jurors who found him guilty today on all 34 counts, after less than two days of deliberation.

Those jurors were not Democrats. They were not politicians. They were not people who had a bias against Trump. They were Americans.Trump’s lawyers allowed them to become jurors because they showed no bias. It’s this fact that will be the most damning to Trump’s narrative that he’s being hounded by the Biden administration and Democrats.”

And this new wrinkle into the process: Manchin of West Virginia, changing his party, no longer a Democrat, now an Independent. How much do you want to bet he throws his hat into the ring!

Trump will spin and lie and spin some more. It’s George Soros this and Biden Justice Department that. But he is wounded. He will be furthered wounded at sentencing even if the punishment is delayed by appeal. Manchin cannot be trusted. Always a questionable democrat. Interesting prediction.

perfect timing, for sure … I didn’t know sistersinlaw had taken their punditry on the road and can well-imagine how much fun it would be to see them live and uncensored!

I didn’t get until that night why anyone would want to see podcasters, even admired podcasters, in person. But it was an event.

Hi Dee, I’ve been a loyal subscriber of yours for years and I love your posts. I have a question I’d like to ask you privately about writing, but when I click on your “email me” link on the right side of your blog post, it doesn’t go through. Can you please check, and or/provide an email address where I can reach you? Thanks so much. Arlene
