Breathing and hopeful
Glad you thought so!
Wow…the Synagogue in Jewish Quarter, Rome is so ornate, not at all what I see here. Interesting.
Dee, this was a great batch this month! I really like the weaving of nature and history and arts and human observation. Love the wording on the opera haiku.
Thanks Nancy. Decided to leave a bunch off. Thirty is too much! The tour at the Synagogue was fascinating. The Jews who came to Rome arrived so much earlier than other exoduses that they are not considered part of the diaspora. Not Sephardic or Ashkenazi.
The Jewish ghetto, prior to restoration, flooded every year. It smelled, the streets often muddy, and of course, there disease was prevalent.
The Christians also were relentless in trying to get them to convert. One tour guide told us that the rate of deafness among Jews was high in part because of having to attend church. They would put wax in their ears so as not to hear.
Fascinating Dee.
I’m trying to imagine how one could possibly distill Rome into one haiku per day … one per hour would even be a challenge
