Safe travels and I hope it is a smooth ride. Your brother must be happy that you are coming. As I said before on your other trips, your being with him as well as your cooking are the greatest medicine.

Re the debate: I watched the debate via Robert Reich and Heather Lofthouse’s podcast and went to the TV after the debate for further analysis. Kamala Harris showed why she should be our President calm, measured, strong, caring, focused and savvy in how she handled the buffoon of a bully. She was excellent in every way. From the very start, walking across the stage, hand outstretched, saying her name, how that must have thrown Trump and startled him and make no mistake, she was powerful and so clever in how she knew exactly how to handle his thin skin! At the same time, she was measured, thoughtful, informative and respectful of her audience.

I was on the debate team at Modesto Junior College and learned that just as important as the words we spoke, was how we spoke them and importantly, how we communicated via body language. We were constantly video- taped in mock debates until we grasped those basic principles. Kamala Harris gave a master class last night in how this works. More importantly, she answered mostly every question with candor and intelligence. I will not waste my time in analyzing how Trump did because he simply reverted to his brainless misogynistic, angry, bullying self and put on such a pitying display.

Will this change the course of this election? Probably not among his lemming followers but my fiercest hope is that the undecideds see in Kamala, a strong, caring, forward thinking candidate, one who stands beside them not over them!

A shout out to the moderators who did a fine job of fact checking the buffoon. However, they let him interrupt and ramble far too long. He spoke more times than Kamala and he should have had his mic muted. When they did not allow Kamala to do a rebuttal to something Trump said, she very cleverly waited and then got her point across while answering another question. As I said, a master class not only in how to handle a debate but in how to become our President.

Nicely put! I agree with your characterizations of how Harris did. There were a couple of places (tariffs come to mind) where she could have been clearer, but overall A+. If people are still undecided they are either brainless or lying trump supporters. I’ve seen a ton of commentary since the debate that says (in my terms): who gives a shit what undecideds think? Hubbell said (I think it was him) that the push has to be for nonvoters and not undecideds. The press does their undecided interviews out of tired adherence to previous campaign approaches and not because it’s useful in anyway.

Wishing you a safe trip and an enjoyable visit, Dee. @Marti very interesting to hear your review, as a person who knows how debates work, how Kamala accomplished her goals in the “debate” last night. I enjoyed screaming at the orange guy to shut up already. Giving “enough rope to hang himself” is what I hope happened.
