Keeping the faith and passing it along to the next generation: Yesterday an email from my 15 yr old granddaughter Rowena, a sophomore in high school, one of only 2 students who is not a junior or senior working on her high school newspaper. (How times have changed because when I wrote for my high school and college newspapers, they were paper printed, her newspaper is on line.)
She wanted my opinion on her article that was published without any corrections and that just thrilled her. When she was searching for a subject for her first article, she asked for my advice as she threw out some topics. The one that I thought had merit was to interview a fellow female student who had started a literary magazine for teens. Rowie chose this topic because of the timeliness and importance of inclusion. The creator of the magazine saw a need for teenagers to connect globally, and share what mattered most to them by using writing as a way to bring to light their concerns. This topic struck a deep cord with Rowie as it is something that she does as well.
Why I bring this here is because I look at the above cartoon and think of my granddaughter and her friends who are not afraid to ask the hard questions, who offer up opinions and solutions and keep digging when they are not satisfied with answers or results. All of this more than helps me keep the faith that this generation of young women will rise up, strong, confident, and ready to go forward, in no small part, inspired by Kamala Harris.

I don’t know any high schoolers right now so it’s good to hear this. I just keep hoping that all the polls missed Gen Z.
