Maybe I’ll have something to say later on. Maybe not. This Chuck Wendig post expresses so much of what I’m thinking and feeling this morning, so in lieu of trying to express similar stuff, I share it with you.

I was so worried about what would happen when he lost … not wanting to believe he could win. This to me is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
There is so so much blame to go around. I feel betrayed by my own optimism.
It’s a dark day and not only for America. This will impact the wider world and the planet itself. I’m shocked that (the number I read) only 54% of women voted for Harris. That feels like a betrayal. I thought women (let alone some remnant of common sense and decency) would carry the day. There will be many who will wish they could recast their votes. I deeply appreciate all you have done, Dee. It does make a difference.
The numbers are shocking. Maybe we shouldn’t have been surprised by the number of white women that voted for Trump but I was. What was all that shit about women over 65 doing the right thing? I’m also deeply surprised by Latino men voting in even higher percentages than white women for Trump. Do they somehow think their vote will protect them from being deported? I just don’t get it. I keep coming round to the simplest of answers which is that we have become a supremely stupid nation.
Devastated and worried sick
Me too, Nancy. The way grief is settling in the body will be something to watch and remedy.
A good friend said on the phone this morning, “if John Lewis could get up and keep fighting, then so can I.”
I’m guessing I’ll get back to feeling like fighting but right now my primary response is wanting to unplug, not giving a shit.
Today has dawned in a way that I believe, none of us expected. I am having a hard time wrapping my heard around the results of a possible total loss of the House to go along with the White House and the Senate.
Soon snow will be falling here in New Mexico who by the way, held to Blue but even there, the margins were way too close: Kamala 51.6% and trump 46.1%..
So on this day, the snow will come, that mesmerizing drift of white that seems to calm and cleanse but look deeper and see the danger of treacherous ice beneath the pillows of white. Fear of what is coming only serves to erode our spirits. What I do know is that the people spoke and their “conversation: is one that I could never have imagined or even considered.
Now this is usually where I say that we must stand and face this new reality and do so, with grace, good intentions and as much calm as is possible. We must continue to hold onto our beliefs, continue to reach out to each other and others, and above all, continue to believe in democracy but for today, I am hunkered down with sorrow, anger and total disbelief….
Hi Marti. I share your inclination to hunker down. I don’t think people who voted for Trump have the slightest clue of the wreckage that’s coming. I haven’t dwelt too much on it myself for fear of making the result I dread come to pass by thinking about it. Old superstitions.
This morning when I couldn’t sleep I read threads by influencers who are saying we can’t give up, we gotta keep fighting, etc. They mean well. The comments that followed were heartbreaking. So many people saying: I’m done /America’s done / I can’t do it anymore / fight for what etc.
I do feel a new resolve to get rid of a lot of my belongings, a lot of our clutter, so that we can move, not to Iceland or Ireland or Canada or anything like that but maybe closer to our kids. Maybe somewhere with lots less construction noise and closer to nature.
It’s one thing for us elders to face the future this election has wrought but for our kids? It’s heartbreaking.
I just wrote god-knows-what and deleted it. I refined a new version. I deleted it. I did that several times. I’m in mourning for sure.
Thanks for sending Chuck Wendig.
Thanks for being here!
Saying, refining, deleting. Rinse. Repeat. Feels like a good metaphor for trying to find words to describe this shit show.
Thank you for sharing this blog. I needed to read his words today. Take care…
You too. Take care.
My 7 year old granddaughter cried this morning when she learned Kamala lost … of course she doesn’t understand the full implications of the loss, but she knows the people she trusts to care for her trusted this person and she is heartbroken
Part of me understands that many people who voted for Trump have been snookered by disinformation, that they are severely stressed by high prices, that they aren’t connected enough to understand that “Trump’s economy” was actually created by the previous Democratic administration … even so, at least 3 million fewer chose to vote for Trump this time around
But how in God’s name did 14 million of those who voted for Joe Biden choose to sit this one out? Are racism and misogeny that deeply rooted? Is it really that horribly simple?
If so, this election isn’t so much about the Republicans who voted for Trump so much as the Democrats who handed him this dark victory.
That’s a good way to look at the numbers. It’s hard to wrap your mind around them. I wish it was because of some cheating on their part but we can’t go down that road.
beyond comprehension…
