Cold is back

I have some longer pieces of writing to share. Maybe tomorrow? Mostly, I feel speechless.

The wind this morning on Langley Road was bitter and made our eyes water. One construction project is finally being framed. Another has a new fence and staircases have been built inside. Another is getting a roof deck. All on Langley Road.

I dumped some stale peanuts outside for the squirrels. It doesn’t take them long to come round. As long as they’re not in our walls, I quite like them.

I’m adding slivers of color to the Smokestack Quilt. Now it offers me the satisfaction of integrating the layers with stitch. It’s a little like vacuuming — a maintenance task with visible results.

Turtle is the wrong color. Disappears.

I’m reading THE FRAUD by Zadie Smith. It’s based on a real case of someone claiming to be a baronet. Set in the 1870’s, England. There was a trial to determine the veracity of “the claimant’s” assertion of identity.

The fractured timeline is a pain in the ass, but not since reading Virginia Woolf in college have I come across so many satisfying take-downs of pretentious characters. That part is brilliant.

Long-ish post for someone who says she feels speechless, eh?

Surgery on Thursday.

Someone who isn’t speechless is Cher. Just finished reading part 1 of her Memoir, a gift from my daughter Erika. Her life story, unexpected in parts, especially her childhood, just enveloped me in the times, we are only a year apart in age, and her candor was like a refreshing breeze. Part 2 will be out later this year.

As for me, I am kind of frothing at the mouth, trying to speak words that don’t come out like daggers, better at writing them. What is not frothing is my strong wish that all will be well for you on Thursday, I will be putting my healing thoughts out into the winds of New Mexico so they can wing their way to you by Thursday.

Heat is back down here in Texas … 70s and 80s with strong sun … I know I shouldn’t complain, but my ankles did anyway, swelling up as I dehydrated (I am so so bad about hydrating)

Wishing you safe passage through the medical establishment on Thursday and beyond … may you be well

Hydration is my new (or returning) anthem. It’s so key! Just walked with three scarves on. One for midriff. One for neck. And one for cheeks and chin.

Will hold you in my prayers for a successful surgery followed by a quick recovery. If you haven’t already seen “Winner” on Hulu based on a true story I think you would like it.
