How was your weekend?

Saturday found us briefly at the Weekly Protest Corner in my town center. My sign said: RESIST TYRANNY. Ken and I laughed about being among the oldsters. I’m guessing 65 is a probable average age (and only because there were a couple of kids there).
Young, old, Christian, Jewish, suburban, urban, rural. America is showing up!
Favorite moment: a black 4×4 stops at the light in front of us, rolls down his window, honking, offering a thumbs up, and engaging in to-the-moment political commentary with a protester.
Not what I expected.
Here’s more what I expect.
Yesterday coming home from Easter dinner with K&B, Ken slid into the passing lane in front of 4×4 with not quite enough space. Truck driver honked like it was the end of the world. It was so alarming I had to turn off the 4/20 talk by Heather Cox Richardson to adopt crisis-vigilance. What would he do next? Well, the prick passed us on the right, pulled in front of us, and slammed on his brakes. Remember, we’re traveling at 80 mph. We drove the rest of the way home in silence.
We were probably in no real danger since the turd didn’t want any damage done to his truck, but still.
That’s what I expect from 4×4 drivers.

The No Kings signs were inspired by the 50501 title for the day but also by a banner that one of the women had seen in Concord the day before.

This is the only Easter picture I took. Sorry! Cake was good. I didn’t triple the carrot amount the way my friend L does, but I did add extra. Martha Stewart’s recipe.

This is Ziggy. Don’t tell K&B (or Finn for that matter) but this is always the highlight of a visit. Tasty dinner and good conversation are contenders but there’s nothing like canine approval and affection.

Slipping him a cracker shard loaded with cheese didn’t hurt my approval ratings (sssh!)

In other news, we lost two mature rhodies this winter. What heart break!
So as not to end on such a negative note, here are two Insomnia Collages from last night.

Make that three.

First combines a gel print on paper (that was collaged and stitched) with a photo of a quilt. Second is comprised of two quilts. Final combines a paper collage and a quilt.

Weekend had expected cold rain, what was unexpected was snow. Sign affixed to my outdoor pot said,” Hands Off Democracy” and looked poignant dusted with snow!
Wish we had had your carrot cake, it looked delicious..
Early that morning I had watched Pope Francis on a TV morning show, bless and wave to the crowed gathered at the Vatican for Easter. He had written his homily but his voice was not strong enough so an aide read it to the crowd. He did use his wheelchair to visit with the crowd and even met with the regime’s VP, Vance, a new Catholic…
Today, I learned that Pope Francis died this morning. The shock of this news and the depth of my emotional reaction to this, stuns me. As a long standing ex-Catholic, (I left the church when I was 15) I rarely have felt anything but disgust at the Catholic church. Yet Francis was a rare man, humble, caring, kind, joyful with a superior intellect who did not at all care for the “trappings and pomp”” of his position. He cared about the people, plain and simple. He was a Jesuit, the intellectual branch of the priesthood and the first Latin American Pope. He lived his faith in a way that was true. (The fact that Vance was one of the last people he met with yesterday, sickens me…)
A man is gone, for while he had an exalted title, he was simply a man of strong beliefs and faith; a man not at all afraid to walk his faith and speak out against hatred, etc. A man who said, “Hostility, extremism and violence are not born of a religious heart: they are betrayals of religion.”
I agree that he was exceptional even though I still could rage against Catholicism all day long.
I agree about the meeting with Vance, but, if there’s anything to divine intervention, perhaps Francis was taken specifically to oversee some righteous, holy Karma. Blasphemy? My belief system would make Disney go pale.

Dee~ The carrot cakes looks De-Lish! And you look so beautiful and content with your friend’s pup. Shhh…I won’t tell Finney-Boy, but I bet he sniffed out this information as soon as you walked in the door 🙂

Ziggy is a handsome devil. It’s a great shot of you but not the right dog. Did Finn give you the full body sniff over when you came home?
