At midnight last night (6/8/25), we took Finn to Angell Memorial ER. He is fine. Doctor could find nothing at all amiss.
We were worried though when he was unable to settle down last night. Panting furiously, with a weird look in his eyes, it was unnerving.
The exam was reassuring enough that we passed on having blood work done. This morning it’s as though nothing happened.

“My country is attacking my city,” said my brother yesterday. Of course we are following the story, as I’m sure you are too. The authoritarian playbook is being followed to a tee, Ruth Ben-Ghiat keeps telling us.

Be sure to mention that the last time a president overrode a governor to call in the National Guard, it was to promote civil rights (in Alabama, BTW, where they were refusing to desegregate the schools).

We head to LA on Wednesday.
I bound and sleeved this Yellow Sun Road quilt yesterday. When I went to the basement for some fabric for the growing turtle composition, I found three more quilts-in-progress. It’s too much. It’s too much.

Dee~ That big beautiful sun looks like SoCal!! You have done such an amazing amount of work. Glad Finney-Boy is okay ❤️ Enjoy your time with your brother and travel safe.
Thanks Nancy!
I always hate when people say this to me: breathe. But I’m going to say it. Stop, find your feet, and Breathe deeply.
You are a very good sister.
Breathing is important. Maybe that’s what Finn was trying to tell us too.
Maybe Finn was watching the news…
Ha! He may have been reacting to the suitcase in the hall too, even tho he never has and he really, really likes the dog sitter.
It’s too all much and not enough at the same damn time. Love your Yellow Sun Road!!
Glad Finn is well. Maybe there was a coyote too close? But, he may be used to that and it was vibes coming through the earth from other places in the world less stable.
Have a safe and wonderful trip!
We are Alaska bound. Then SanFran.
Meanwhile our country is attacking our country. Billy always has solid gut punching pithy statements on the real world. Runs in your family I think. I hopr you don’t have to watch a lot of sports.
xoxoxo M
Safe travels to you! Alaska is going to be amazing!
Still don’t have a good working theory on what went in with the dog last night. Coyotes would make him bark not cower and pant. I’m thinking maybe he saw a ghost?
I will have to watch a lot of sports. Too bad we missed the French open. It sounds like it was kind of epic this past weekend.
Yellow Sun Road is AMAZING … the treasures you find in that basement of yours. Finn .. why do our 4 legged family scare us soooo??? Sweetie is 16 and forever has us feeling like it’s time to say goodbye and yet hour’s later if not the next morning she’s right back to being her much loved younger self.
Have a safe trip filled with fun family time … what is happening is as always unbelievable!! Seems there is just no end to the chaos and injustice he brings.
16?! Our baby is turning 11 this summer and we notice lots of ways he’s slowing down. Hope you get many more years. I’ll be posting from Los Angeles, from the relative isolation of Mount Washington. But yeah, the chaos and grief is bottomless it seems on some days. We have to remember just how thoroughly he’s being trounced in the courts. That is NOT nothing. A few unexpected democratic wins in red districts also encouraging.
I’m glad that you will be with your brother, especially during this time of such upheaval…I know he awaits your wonderful cooking. As you pack your suitcase, leave a tiny bit of room for those of us who travel with you in spirit and solidarity as June 14th approaches. Please be safe as I fear that the protests could become dangerous, especially in Los Angeles. Peaceful, non-violent protest is at times, hard to hold onto, as we are seeing in LA. The regime has labeled CA a police state and Marines are being considered to add to the national guard- If I were to write a dystopian novel, it could not come close to what is going on now here in America…so I will gaze on your wondrous Yellow Sun Road, alive with such color and patterns. I willl place myself on the winding road and hope that all roads, heading toward the midterm next year, will turn left!
I had originally thought I might pop down to Pasadena on the 14th. Now I’m not so sure. We’re meeting First Born for dinner on Friday and it seems like we ought to avoid Mexican restaurants, “just in case” they become targets … but think about that, the secondary economic toll.
My deepest hope is that we win in 2026 with enough margins to impeach and convict. I know. I know. JD is in bed with the technocrat bros and their anti-democratic agenda. One thing at a time!
I don’t know that I’ve ever commented on the sheer volume of collage and quilt compositions you create, but I am ever in awe
Wishing you safe travel and happy memory-making … I used to scoff at sports on TV, but have lately found things like soccer, women’s volleyball, and golf to be a good form of mental escape from the news (as vital as it is to stay current, which I still do) … and watching online as our 12 year old grandson plays baseball at Cooperstown Dreams has been absolutely epic (he pitched a winning game and hit a home run to boot yesterday)
I don’t scoff at sports interest, I just notice how much it requires cultivation. If you don’t know the rules or the teams or some of the players, it’s just noise.
Congrats on your budding baseball star!! So so nice.
