What to say

Sunday June 22, 2025, the day after dipshit unilaterally decided to bomb Iran. GOP members of Congress being MIA matters more than it did last week.

Meanwhile, record-setting heat wave ought to command our attention and resources. It is beyond baffling that it doesn’t.

Finished this book this week. It’s about a crew that goes around repairing underwater cables, cables that connect us to the internet. The ship of the story sets out from South Africa, so there are some interesting observations about race. I learned about this network of cables enough to understand how fragile our connectivity is. But mostly the novel is a character study of the ship’s operational leader and a compelling one.

    Sharing the comment I made on grace’s blog today:

    So many word want to come out but I will not stoop to the level of hateful rhetoric that i am capable of when speaking of the person who inhabits the White Hose; I could fill volumes. What I will do is to simply let a paragraph from Robert Reich’s latest email speak for me. One thing I will put down here is that a bully is a coward, letting others stand and face and be used as fodder…Reich titled his latest email, The Dogs of War from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, in which Mark Antony (in Act 3, Scene 1) says: “Cry ‘Havoc!’, and let slip the dogs of war” — signifying that war unleashes chaos and violence.” reich says this about the dictator:

    “It’s possible that he believes the attacks give him more bargaining leverage with Iran. But a more likely explanation is that the attacks fit perfectly with Trump’s desire to divert attention from his multiple failures at home: The on-again-off-again tariffs that have spooked financial markets while eliciting no meaningful concessions from other nations (especially China). An immigration crackdown that’s been stymied by federal judges. The so-called “big beautiful bill” that’s in deep trouble in the Senate. Trump’s embarrassing tiff with Musk. His failures to achieve peace in either Ukraine or Gaza. And last weekend’s record-breaking “No Kings” demonstrations as compared to his scrawny military parade.

    Besides, there’s nothing like a war to help a wannabe dictator like Trump justify more “emergency” powers.” Reich asks 10 questions in this email and for those of you who would like to know more, here is the link;

      Commentators constantly talk about creating distraction but in this case I think it’s true. Reich lays it out cogently. I’m afraid that this act of war also might be laying the foundation for increased authoritarian power grabs at home. And we mustn’t forget that Trump is an impulsive sadist and has wanted to drop bombs forever.

    Your photos speak volumes. Who among us seeks to destroy the earth and good will more than the maga cast of bullies, criminals, murderers and thieves… it is the ring of lying, hateful greed-stricken oligarchs.
    Sounds like an interesting book.
    Thanks @Marti – I stopped reading Reich a whole ago, but this is good helpful stuff to me today.

      Well said. Noam Chomsky opined (ages ago) that the Republican Party is the most destructive organization on earth. Very apparent these days. Asbestos, anyone?

      Your words express what I was feeling (but could not put to words) while viewing Dee’s beautiful, life filled photos. Thanks.

    seems T. is copying N.’s example: distract your voters any which way, no matter the cost…..
    their insatiable lust for what exactly?…power, sex, money, what?? has no limits
    what is even scarier (to me) is that we are unable to stop them, any of them

      It is sickening how to me that our leader seems more interested in kowtowing to Netanyahu than considering the interests of the American people.

    We were in Missouri, where my son-in-law’s conservatism had me biting my tongue until it near bled … I have learned the hard way there is nothing to be gained by confronting him with the sheer fecklessness of voting as he does, so I have to console myself with the knowledge that at least our other son-in-law has come to see the light
