Hey hey! Just kidding. But a super nice and well-known former Boston radio DJ and talk show host, Jordan Rich, interviewed me for his podcast, On Mic.
JR, as he’s called, worked as a disc jockey and talk show host throughout the Boston area for decades, including as the morning drive host for WSSH-FM (1982 to 1996) and as cohost of The Morning Show on WRKO-AM (1978 to 1982). He is co-owner of Chart Productions, a company offering a full range of audio and video production and coaching services.
When you hear how gorgeous his voice is, you won’t be at all surprised that he’s made careers in radio and podcasting.
He asked really great questions about my research process, crafting voice for my characters, and more.

I don’t think I sound too stupid.

If you have time, please leave his podcast a review.

What a well spent 24 minutes. Dee. Jonathan Rich was insightful and thoughtful in his questions and it was so clear that he was so very impressed with your book, with your use of extensive research, with your ability to place us at the scene via geography, food, language; as I mentioned in my own review on Amazon, living, palpable history.
As an aside, you mentioned his great voice well your voice was so compelling, enthusiastic and inviting. It is so clear what these characters have meant to you and the breadth of your research and knowledge just shined in your conversation.,
For me, the fact that Jonathan read with such close attention was terrific. He zeroed in on Melody, July and Saffron in the way that I did in terms of their story, brought so richly to life in your hands. He asked smart questions and touched all of the bases of your extensive research.
The most moving part of this podcast came at the end as he spoke of the importance of your novel in the overall arc of slavery and how you hoped that you would soon get your first review from a Black reader. As word gets out, you will because you honestly and thorough researched the material but more importantly, each page shines with caring and respect for your characters. You bring them alive with integrity and truth and as a reader, this is exactly what I want from an author.
Thank you for this opportunity to listen to your interview. A fine series of questions and answers. I certainly enjoyed listening and learning.
I loved your JR interview! Never a microsecond between brilliant question and brilliant response from start to finish. So informative – so helpful to me! Me, who always starts to read anything just when I “hit the sack” when I am most exhausted mentally and physically. I really like knowing the context, the research, and the amazing creative work that went into your characters.
And, let me echo all that @marti wrote here.
Congrats!!
Thanks Maggie. It’s a little hard to be objective here, ya know?
Dee~ You sounded like a seasoned author who was comfortable in her material and in being interviewed. It was interesting to hear how much research you did on everything!
Nancy
FINALLY … listened to the podcast!!! It was really good so good in fact that I just moved your book to the top of my reading list. I feel now like I missed a lot of the different perspectives and personalities of the individuals … You really brought them to life.
Nice. Let me know what you think after.
