The searching can be pathetic

So don’t judge me, but I took a free one hour “class” on mediumship this week. Not Eckhardt Tolles’ series on the transformative nature of hardship or some trauma specialist’s ten-week workshop on healing somatic grief. Nope. A corny little class on mediumship.

I put “class” in quotes because it was really an ad. The presenters offered about ten or 15 minutes of interesting stuff followed by an enthusiastic discussion of their upcoming (and not decidedly NOT free) weekend workshop.

Yeah. Pissed me off. Didn’t surprise me, really.

After listing out all the “claires”: clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, etc, they discussed the difference between intuition and spirit communication using an elevator analogy: if intuition is on the fourth floor, then spirit-talk resides on the tenth.

But the most interesting point was “the three-second rule.”

The rule says that you should trust what you receive in the first two to three seconds of listening. Much of what comes AFTER those initial seconds, they said, is just the mind getting in the way.

Unfortunately, my initial take away is this: if I’m not hearing from Danny, it’s because I’m doing it wrong. I’m not quiet enough. Skilled enough.

Worthy enough.

I think this even while not really knowing what I actually believe about death and what comes after.

I wrote this yesterday while drinking iced coffee, sitting under the quilt that Tina made for me and listening to the rise and fall of the cicada cries. Finn relaxing nearby. Which is to say, there’s a lot to be grateful for even now.

PS Massive explosions at a nearby demolition sight began not long after I wrote about the quiet. Every blast makes the house shake dramatically, like there’s an earthquake.

Are you a Type A? ( hard on yourself). I’m married to a type A. All of my good friends are Type A’s. I’m not a Type A. What’s up with that? I think I’m just basically lazy. Also afraid of failure. I need to live larger by living more quietly?
Have you tried noise-cancelling headphones? $200 Sound-Core2. I love them. I can hear a door open (or slam) but it’s not painful. I can hear the microwave beep, but it doesn’t *annoy* me. All ambient sound is gone (back hoes, airplanes, air-conditioners, neighbor-dog’s barking, cars driving by, and leaf blowers) gone gone gone. I can listen to music or not. I can hear people who come close to me to talk. I am able to focus. It is bit of a technical fuss to get it going. Doesn’t involve AI or Siri.
The spirit world (though I resist it) comes to me from reading my horoscope everyday in my email. You brought that Astrological and Tarot spirit world to me long ago and I am grateful. Grateful to have you in my life everyday.

Type A? I don’t know. Definitely hard on myself. Also lazy over here. Defeatist.

We have noise cancelling headphones. I used to have a great pair but no longer. They DO help. The current blasting is very intermittent (1-2x day) and leaf blowers don’t get to me anymore because people are finally following our city’s noise ordinance. But tree work? Sustained jackhammering? Yes and yes.

Because of the school and summer camp and all the rest, a quiet morning here is a rarity. And I always go, “aaah.”

yes, soaking up some neighborhood peace sounds very nice. I wish I’d gotten NC headphones sooner. I saw them as anti-social, but gosh they aren’t. Oh and the “type A” thing I meant to be humorous but sometimes I need to take a beat. I have had too much coffee and got no sleep last night. Thunder, driving rain, wind and wildly close lightening made the cat want to sleep on me – all silliness. except doom-swirling on the state of the world. Canada: I don’t want them to negotiate – when has that not been capitulation? This is still the same bully we are all dealing with. bye for now. xoxo

          I probably am type A. It’s a good question so don’t worry.

The news is just (scream into a canyon) —- you know you’re American when you can’t decide which kind of story makes your crazier on any given day — the idiotic, narcissistic incompetence of our president (Lake America) or his epic and blatant corruption or favoring fossil fuel corporations even as glaciers fail with catastrophic result.

I want to make a sky like the one in the cloth piece of yours…..that’s my project for today. thank you…….as to communication with those who have passed. No different than talking to them when they were alive….write a letter…..add stamp and no address…mail it. or address and no stamp. I read a book once where the main character regularly wrote letters to someone who had died …….the letters were part of the book… you could do that. I would do that……if I lost my son.

Hi Joanne. I am filling little Field Notebooks with letters to Danny. Not every day but often enough to feel some kind of dialogue (albeit one-sided).

      Enjoy your making.

Here’s something that will prove aggravating. If the house truly shook at these explosions, be on the lookout for plumbing leaks. Get ready to do battle with somebody’s insurance company.

Dee~ Love the colors of your Tina Quilt 🙂
I appreciate both your open mind and your skepticism…and your sense of humor about it all. I say “go for it!” I hope you can put those ‘wrong’ and ‘not’ ideas away for a while and roll with however you are doing it now, for this time. Now. Period. (((hugs)))

Dee, I made an appointment to meet with a medium. Not an inexpensive venture. I will report the content of the first three seconds.
I’m not sure I believe, but I’m afraid not to.
I don’t tolerate bullshit either. This appointment is a stretch.

Yes let me know. And btw I loved your book — story was engaging and intimate and well told. And, we’ll see you in Lenox at the launch next month.

I read this Dee, just now, this morning. My immediate thought was to get it to you somehow. And there you were in my inbox talking of mediums! The universe works in mysterious ways. I saw a physic after Paul died and he told me exactly what was on four photographs that I took along and he could not have had known, no way. Paul was there, no doubt. I have seen a few over time and I have seen Simone. This is very long, and a copy of what Simone has just written on the anniversary of her daughter’s death. You can find her on Facebook. Simone Patrice Clairvoyant & Medium.

Dee, I now understand that the trauma sits within and all the talk in the world doesn’t allow us to work on the body where our trauma resides. My new trauma therapist loves that I have done so much ‘work’ as I have a degree of understanding which makes this therapy easier for me to navigate. I am making inroads and starting to feel more able. I hope you are in a different space 16 years on from where I am. If I had only known earlier how extremely important the body work is. My therapist has also imparted upon me that the issue with ‘talking therapy’ is that we relive the body trauma every time we talk and without the ‘body therapy’ supporting us during that process, well it isn’t a great thing for us to do one without the other. If you can find a good EFT therapist, consider trying it out.

Think of you so very much. Take care, Linda.

Thanks for all of this Linda. I know I’ll eventually do some sort of deeper therapeutic processing. Just not now. Already tho Ken and I see someone who works energetically and she’s really good.

I’ll look up the woman on FB.

Your journey is your own. I only wish so many of us didn’t have to have had to embark on such a one. Psychics/Mediums…You are not doing anything wrong and you are certainly worthy. For me it’s about believing (not in religion, that’s not me) but in something else that binds us. It’s noticing the little things that only make sense when you put your child there with you. It’s birds and animals for me; it’s how he lets me know he is around. Interested in how she is working energetically.

I have a HUgE collection of feathers from the summer. To me the telling thing is not finding one gorgeous ten-inch long turkey feather, but (twice now) finding another one just like it before the end of the day — as if Danny wanted each of us to have one!

PS I am going to delete the long post from Patricia above. I worry about space sometimes. I’ll leave her name so folks on FB can go and find her.
