Lots to love about my protesting neighbors, but my very favorite part about this morning were all the honking horns from passing cars.
Oh, and someone brought a bullhorn and played Springsteen’s new song. Then, This Land is Our Land. Then, she read the Bill of Rights.
Meanwhile over on Instagram, Hazel is fundraising for a nonprofit in Minnesota. Check it out.

Tonight, it was leftovers and Prime Suspect. For some reason we’re watching that old series again.
Last night after viewing the new documentary about movies in 1975, we watched Taxi Driver, which I had never seen.

I was somewhat nonplussed by Taxi Driver but the documentary brought up a lot of feelings. That’s the year I graduated from high school. That’s the year Saigon fell. That’s the year Jaws came out.
It’s late and I’m not all that coherent right now, so I’ll say good night!

Dee~ That is crowd is good to see! Yay for Hazel!! I graduated in 1976, a year after you. Our caps & gowns were red, white and blue, of course.
That was one of the head bangers watching the documentary. That 1976 was 50 years ago (with the 250 year anniversary happening this year).
Dee~ When you put it like that…am I that old?!! haha
We’re vintage!
Graduated in 1965, a time of protest and concern. Here we are 61 years later, still a time of protest and concern. Yesterday I was able to take it to the streets briefly with my sign of a sun shining on the words, MELT ICE. An interesting experience with a group of Christians who were protesting by the post office. When I joined them, not knowing that they were a Christian group, I was floored when they felt my sign was too political, They asked me to join them by carrying one of their calmer signs, signs with the words, Love, Trust, Kindness and Justice. After agreeing to take the sign Justice, I did reply, “murdering US citizens is political!” Later, I ventured forth to a place that had seen a protest the day before, an astonishing situation since I live in a red city in a blue state and there have been no protests until Friday, Jan. 3pth. No one was there, in front of the Walgreens but I did use both signs, MELT ICE and Justice and walked back and forth, might have even danced a few steps, for about half an hour. After that time, I started to feel quite vulnerable, being the only person out in the area even though I got supportive honks and waves from drivers. In the moment before I returned to my car, I was not the old, gray scraggly-haired green hatted, jacketed crone marching for Democracy but the long haired green mini skirt wearing young woman, protesting from 1965,,.
Your experience makes clear, Marti, how we march to protest the abject horrors and injustices taking place today and in the process give ourselves the gift of presence.
And those Christians? I would have had little tolerance for them, I’m afraid.
Good riddance January!! Praying February brings less snow and a few warmer days would be welcomed. We’ve been watching Pluabus .. it is crazy weird! Can’t decide if we love or hate it but after every episode we can’t wait for the next one.
I’m intrigued by what I read about that show but somehow not yet really wanting to dig in. People online have strong feelings about the main character.
And yes. Good riddance January. Warmer days and less insanity and tyranny would be welcome.
