The statutory period for grace runs out.
Now there’s pacing to get out of limbo or running in circles for mercy and hunting for evidence of tender justice.
Nothing makes sense.
Expectation, reward, history, dreams –
everything gone mad.
Waiting for any of it to slouch
forward to resolution or peace might be a fool’s game.
All I can do is keep my sights at ground level and hope the light doesn’t fail before I do.

Freedom Summer of 1964…Freedom Summer of 2026, action called for by Justin Jones, rising Black politician of TN. Memphis, a town of 619,000, 2/2 of the population is Black and the only Democratic district that existed in TN until the Supreme Court and others re-opened the door to Jim Crow.
In an interview with Robert Reich, Jones responded when asked how to go forward: “Freedom Summer?” Jones responded, with a smile. “A multiracial force of young people fanning out across the South, registering voters, getting them to the polls, just like they did in 1964.”
I read these brave words, of the potential coming together of Citizens of Democracy and weep for loss of life occurred in 1964 and we all know that history does repeat itself. I no longer know this country I live in…
Typo: should be 2/3 not 2/2.
Dee, forgive me for taking a different tact with your words of Mercy, Justice and Peace. Sorrow is ever present and I needed a way to expel some of it…
No forgiveness required. What is happening with extinguishing the Black vote (and potentially democracy with it), calls to mind the need for justice and mercy too.
There is no statutory grace period for what you’re living through .. I know for a fact you’ve been granted a lifetime deferment. Whatever you’re doing or not doing is good enough .. even if it’s just waking up with the window open so you can hear bird songs.
@Tina, I echo your sentiments.
