“The more we open to ourselves, completely and fully, then that much more openness radiates to others.”
Chogyam Trungpa, “Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism”
The heat here is oppressive. Gardened early and slowly yesterday, with long pauses for icy cold water. Today I’m taking a pass on dirt and sweat and retreating to the coolness of my cellar. AAAAAAAAAAhhhhhh.
Took this picture in a backyard on Sunday, while taking the Open House Tour — something I had never done in my 24 years of living in this town. It was fun… satisfying the nosy self, the curator/designer self, the history buff, and giving the bitchy, bitter self something to complain about. Kind of covered a lot of the bases.
This statue was in situated in one of the prettiest backyards that we saw. At Buddha’s feet was a fountain, gurgling up through loosely arranged stones on a single round block of rock. K. explained to D. how it was done. “So simple,” he noted. “I want one,” I exclaimed.

… I love how you write!!
(Beautiful Buddha, and the fountain is exquisite in it’s simplicity).
Thanks, Victoria! I haven’t had a chance to read blogs lately and will have to pop over to yours in the morning… last I checked you had just gotten back from a trip — that’s how long it’s been!
oh bliss! we are expecting SNOW again……………….
are you kidding me?!!!!!!! your extreme Canadian alpine climate makes New England seem darn right tame.
Cool fountain, I want one too! If it turns out to really be simple let me know and I will try it with my sitting buddah, he could use some hydration.
I know what you mean about those house tours. I do a lot of them in PA with my mom and I come out so envious it hurts. Artie hates when I go because all he hears for weeks afterwards are my two favorite words…. “I want.”
An olive green t-shirt with the first picture of buddah on it would look wonderful!
Heat chases me out of the garden faster than rain! Not that it’s much of a problem at the moment…still lots of rain.
Oh my, I need that Buddha just about right now! And I hope you get your fountain. I want one, too. We have home tours in my neighborhood, and I know exactly the full range of sentiments that they summon up in me, too. I always take my notebook so I can make notes for settings for my stories, but it is hard not to personally long for someone else’s staircase or their conservatory. But then again, do I really need a conservatory and where would I put a staircase in my one-story house, anyway?? Oh, I definitely need that Buddha, to get my head on straight!! xo Kari
I haven’t done a house tour but a few art tours…..which turn out to be house tours, you just can’t help yourself from being nosey (well I can’t!)
I wishing for you to get that fountain 🙂
