whitewash

  by dee at clothcompany

It turns out that if you add the words “Fox News” to a google search for quotes by global warming naysayers, you will greatly expand your catch.

I’ve decided to ‘white wash’ this pieced and appliqued panel with machine-stitched cursive, spelling out some of quotes expressing the view that global warming is a ‘scam’.

Comments such as: “We were put on this Earth as creatures of God to have dominion over the Earth, to use it wisely and steward it wisely, but for our benefit not for the Earth’s benefit.” [Rick Santorum]

On a lighter note, it is windy, cool and suitably spooky here and not a bad night to live in the Boston area.

Six Week Class – starting next week!

Come join me next week at the New Art Center, Newton, MA — ILLUSTRATION QUILTS, 6 Weds., 10/30 to 12/11 (no class 11/27), 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. You can register online at New Art Center’s website.  Take a peek at some ideas / approaches to fiber art in my flickr set “Quilts & More“.

Six weeks is enough time to start and finish a small wall hanging. Hand and machine quilting will be explored, as well as several techniques for attaching pieces of fabric to each other and to a base. No experience necessary.

Speed of execution

Here are two global warming quilts side by side. The right hand panel is the one I basted yesterday.

In spite of having made the panel “lap ready,” I may machine quilt it and its partner.

It isn’t because I wish to avoid the long hours of hand sewing. It’s more that I’m eager to invest that kind of time and energy in work that feels more in line with my current palette and ideas. These panels were begun more than a couple of years ago now. They feel dated. But I want to finish them.

It’s going to rain soon and feels like a spaghetti kind of night.

PS I have started pricing IT services and feel as though there might be light at the end of this Computer Frustration Tunnel.

PPS  The top photo was entered from phone to wordpress ‘large’, the middle ‘medium’ and the final taken while writing. They ALL look out of focus to me.

Moving furniture

I moved the furniture around so as to have a big table near the couch for basting. I really want to finish another quilt from the Global Warming series. The basting is done; the quilt ‘lap-ready.’ But having the table near the fireplace is inviting, and so maybe I’ll leave it there for awhile — we could eat by the fire.

Still blogging without using Photoshop Elements (today, the phone). The revolving blue donut just kinda did me in. Bear with me as I figure this out. Words do not flow through thumbs the way they do through a nib or keyboard, but the real problem is the quality of the pictures. It seems that no matter what size I upload them from my phone, they blur here. Arg!!

Found and filling in

The walnuts fall with a fury, a little wind producing something akin to artillery. A neighbor jogs by, hands on head, squealing.

It is a another warm and beautiful day. D got his license and went back to bed. I walked around the lake with a friend.

Went out repeatedly to see the eclipse last night and was disappointed. Anyone see it?
