My brother is on a plane to LAX. It’s snowing here in Massachusetts. The power’s out in Georgia. Rainsluice is posting heartbreaking but clarifying articles on Twitter. K is walking the dog. Who knows what William Barr is doing.
Today: we will enjoy a fire. I have two chicken carcasses to make stock. I’m dreaming of a bean soup with sweet potatoes. Cilantro. A little heat. Mmmmm
I’m converting masks with cloth ties to masks with elastic (remember when elastic ordered online took three months to arrive?) Two ties ended up on the quilt above — they’re the orange and white fabric strips with a line of machine stitching on one edge. I like that quarantine energy found a way in. A friend on Instagram liked that I called the black fabric, “the moon ground.”
This was one of those pieces where I kept adding things and then rejecting the additions. Spare horizon and a disturbed sky with an indistinct shelter speak to the moment, I guess.
In the one below, the paths need work. Should they cross over into the green?
In the meantime, it’s worth singing in the shower: I am healthy. I am happy. I am ho-oh-Oh-lee.
You are so productive! I am working on some more masks too, the count is nearing 500. I finally finished a baby quilt and a BLM hand embroidered wall hanging. Also pieced a king quilt and is ready for quilting and started a double quilt for my mom, she is in a nursing home and will be signing her up for hospice soon. Its getting cold I want her to have a nice quilt to sleep under.
500?!!! I topped out at less than 90 and THAT felt like a lot. All three of these quilts were in progress. What I’m sharing is completion. So that’s a little different than going start to finish. Would love to see your BLM wall hanging. Is there a place that I can?

Love love love these quilts and the photos, Dee. I like the paths crossing that curb line (?) It is a great statement, but I think could be more pronounced – give them “strong finishes”. So sad the kiddos will not be crossing that curb line this year to meet their scary neighbor’s smiles and be rewarded for their bravery. O so Happy that B’s on his way home and has such great support! Not surprising, yet very moving to know so many care about him. Money isn’t everything but it sure does help! AND our docs (since the privatization of hospitals and the ever increasing corruption of healthcare insurance companies and cost of education to say nothing of malpractice insurance premiums) do *not* bring home tons of money as people have been taught to think. I hope the damn insurance companies at least give docs (and other HC workers) a break if not a totally free ride.
We will miss the little Halloweeners this year. Good point about docs. Most of B’s career was with a county hospital which means he made about a quarter of what he could’ve made at a private Boston hospital. I’ll take your advice about the paths. I want their curves to be stronger too.
Housebound has sure made you House Quilting busy! You fabric variety never ends, and each quilt looks different, but looks just like a Dee Quilt for sure.

I am so in love- with your never ending delightful house quilts. Sigh. I need to “just make one” as I have sky fabric. Have grass or dirt fabric. And know how to build a simple house shape. I can even hang a moon. A friend send me like a million feet of elastic from China. For my birthday. What a hoot. And my black felt and pipe cleaners are on the work table for a Christmas Rat. Also Working on The Hallmark Bingo List. Will email it when I have enough.

I especially adore the piece with the turquoise check outer border. It’s just so happy and ‘safe as houses’-ish. unamused by the snow. We got eight inches – twice what was predicted. Wondering if I blew it through assuming oh it’s the first snowfall it’ll melt right off and then we’ll plant the garlic.
Wow to eight inches. I’m guessing we go three, maybe four. I’m not really thrilled about it. It just is dissonant.
and now it’s Saturday and I’m wondering if I will regret rushing toward Tuesday when we get there and beyond … best to take the advice given last night to simply enjoy now
