Wrapping up

Saturday, June 28, 2025

Usually, after a trip to California I add something to my household that from then on feels essential. How did I live without it before? One year, it was a rice cooker, another, a Dyson stick vacuum. This year, it’s gonna be a new waffle maker and bourbon vanilla extract. Used the extract for French toast this morning — yum!

Heading home shortly. I don’t know why, but when I get back I want to do a deep cleaning of the downstairs.

In case you’re not on Instagram, here I am modeling my new haircut. Billy’s caregiver used to be a stylist and a good one as it turns out. Did you know you should change your side part every other month?

Christmas in July. For trump, that is.

I’ll say no more about SCOTUS for now, but holy fucking Christ.

Two Insomnia Collages to end.

Bougainvillea flowers look out of this world beautiful … they were one of my mom’s favorites. Have a safe trip home … can’t believe how quick your week’s away went. It is crazy scary how time flies.

Dee~ Aw, your haircut looks great! I could try to change my part a million times, but it always goes back to the middle. Plus, since I had a side part as a child, I always think I look silly-young. Oh well. You look swell in black and white. The evening view pic is pretty and I’m wordless about all of them at this point.
My sister and I just had a long chat about getting rid of things…she’s on a binge, I need to be. Well, want to be.
    Safe journey home.

Thanks Nancy. Not sure I’m gonna succeed at the part switch either. My cleaning impulse is more toothbrush and cleanser than clutter sorting.

You look terrific, Dee! I really like the hillside view full of lights picture; it’s one of the things I miss about living in San Francisco. The news has not been encouraging this week (putting it very mildly). Why is it still surprising that it can be this bad?

That’s the thing isn’t it? That the news is both utterly predictable, somehow, and shockingly bad.

I love the views from this house.

Bourbon flavored vanilla and a new haircut is such an uplift. You look quite glamorous in your black and white photo but I hope you don’t keep your part to the “right” too long…joking! The bourbon flavored vanilla has me thinking how good it would taste, just drizzled over vanilla ice cream! or depending on the state of affairs, guzzled from the bottle! -that is how much I need an uplift regarding the news…

Re SCOTUS: when I heard yesterday’s news, I kept hearing the lyrics to a song from the 70’s by Edwin Star, titled WAR. First stanza says, “War, huh, yeah, What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing…” so in my head I sang, SCOTUS, huh, yeah, what is it good for, absolutely nothing except for justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson.”

    Safe travels back home..

I learned about bourbon vanilla from recipes by The Gluten Free Goddess. It is the only one I use, for like 20 years! We should talk more often 🙂 🙂
    Love your hair cut!
The vileness of SCOTUS just gets deeper.
Went to see the “Routed West: Twentieth Century African American Quilts in California”. Yesterday Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) yesterday! It is astounding and beautiful. The entire story of how the quilts were collected, donated, researched, restored… the history, the families, the uniqueness and power of each one. You would love it!! On through November…

And to think that within hours of these democracy-busting decisions, Robert’s had the nerve to lecture the public about our tone. Unbelievable.

      The quilt show sounds amazing.

    The hair change is amazing.
I keep saying, “I want rice.” None appears. What brand is your cooker and are you happy with it?
